View Full Version : Question about Cheating...

I know threads like this is getting redundant now but I just want to ask a question about cheating.

Today, I was playing CTF at Coagulation and when on Defense, I was guarding the flag. And the other team used the banshee glich, grabbing it from the bottom. Is that cheating? should I report them?

FYI: they never scored cause i raped those asses!

Bungie said it's not really cheating

I have a question about cheating as well. What is a dummy glitch? I don't mean how do you do it (because I don't want to know). What is it and how can I tell if someone has done that?

ah, man, thats so dumb. it should be cheating. oh well.

snowblind, lol, that was funny.

i'm pretty sure it's not considered cheating because there is an intentional opening in the glass that is there to allow people to grab the flag from underneath.

and i'm also pretty sure the dummy glitch is where an elite model player somehow becomes invisible in the passender seat of the warthog, and when he grabs the flag he is instantly teleported back to his base for the score. something like that anyways.
you'll be setting there watching your flag and all the sudden it will just dissapear and it will instantly say 'flag captured'.

go to the bottom of the base and look a little piece of the flag is showing.

i at least hope that this is one of the things that bungie will fix.

i know you can pass the flag through just about any wall, but i'm pretty sure they intentionally made it so that people are able to grab the flag from underneath on this level. they're not going to 'fix' it, imo.
it's not that big of a deal anyway, imo. they should be more concerned with fixing the dummy glitch and doing something to prevent stand-by.

Dummy Glitch is done by only a off-host player with the appearance of an Elite. A glitch in the game allows them to create an invisible clone of themselves. Usually you can tell if they dummied you if your flag dissappears with visibly nobody grabbing it. They teleport back to their base and score abnormally fast. Best defense is to send 1 guy to scope out their base in the beginning.

Edit: Soundscape got to it first :D

Good one, Snowblind.

When I'm guarding the base I stay in the top level, killing any people on foot with sniper, then drop to very bottom level of base because most players just always drop out of the hole (in the floor on the side of the base). I usually play offense so I don't have to worry about defending that much anymore.

I've also got a question. On Midship, Neutral Bomb, is it considered cheating when one team gets the bomb, takes it on top of the roof on one end of the top bridge, and throws it out of reach? I hate this so much, and so many people do it, they just get the lead and once they get the bomb back, throw it out so that the other team can't even get to it. The grabbing from underneath is fine with me because it's easy to stop and the player won't get far when he does it, but this just pisses me off and makes the game no fun.

thats, not really cheating but i wouild consider it a cheap tactic.

There are two types of dummy glitch, and both are considered cheating.

The first involves a warthog, an elite model, and a lot of meleeing. If you go to the other base and see a guy just standing in one spot hitting the air, he is probably on his way to your base in the side of a warthog, getting ready to get the flag. He can't move but can be placed on the flag or pushed on the flag or have the flag tossed to him, at which point he can grab it, move, and be teleported back to his meleeing body. Its incredibly cheap, but very easy to stop when you see it happening. Just blow up the warthog, and you are all set. You can't kill his dummy, but its pretty much useless if he can't be put near the flag.

The other dummy trick is the worser (is that a word?) or the two. It, unlike the other one, involves standby, and can only be stopped by killing the persons body back where he started to dummy. Basically the player makes a clone of himself by pushing his standby button, and has free access to roam the map without being seen. He can walk over to the base, grab the flag, and instantly be teleported back to where he began to dummy. This trick is what 90% of cheaters do when they do not get host and the game is capture the flag, because they suck at halo 2 and can't win without cheating. You can tell if someone is dummying themselves by checking the lag. If they have 1 red bar, and everyone else has full green bars, it usually means they are dummying at the moment. The only really defense is to find the dummy, or wait until he warps back to his body and kill him before he scores, which is very tough because his entire team will probably be helping him.

I tried not to go into too much detail, because I have spent the last 3 months of my life amazed at how incredibly stupid people can be. I do not understand the whole cheating scene. Why ruin the best xbox game I have ever played? Does it make you feel proud to brag to your friends at how you cheated your way to level 50 yet have the skill level of maybe a 14? 90% of all the cheaters I have encountered are pre-pubescent little assbags who could pass for an 8 year old girl on the telephone, and seem to enjoy bragging about how they beat you and you are noobs. My clan reached level 20 yesterday, and it took us 2 hours to play 3 games after we got there, just for the sad reason that we had to wait for host and lock someone in. It takes 3 times as long to get a game as it does to play it, because half of the games you play against players above level 20 involve standby.

I know I'm not the only frustrated one, but it really is getting to me. I find myself getting less and less angry at the standbyers each time, because the act is so old and drawn out.

So let me understand this clearly, a guy creates a clone of himself, is the clone invincible? Can this be used in a slayer game? I mean, sometimes when I play slayer I just gawk at how many times I can blast someone to bits and have them walk up and kill me with what appears to be only a couple of shots from ana SMG. Is this just from lag? Or are people doing something more nefarious?

Personally I never report people for proximity glitches.

Doesn't work in Slayer. Now you don't have a health bar so you don't know how close you are to dying so that may be it. Lag is a factor in it too.
