Swedish developer Team Tarsier today revealed the first details from its upcoming next-gen title Metronome, a unique third person adventure game where sound is your weapon. Explore the city of Metronome in search of proof of the Corporations secret agena, while listening for sounds to record. Sounds can be used for fighting enemies, solving problems and confuse citizens.

When the veil of conformity is lifted you begin to question the world around you. Who and what are you, in this city of continuous labour? What is the actual purpose of the Metrognomes? And are the scouts really there to help the citizens as the Corporation claims...?

Together with the mysterious girl New you set out to uncover her hidden past. A journey that will lead you through several exceptional locations, trying to reveal the truth about the mysterious Corporation and find the purpose of the city itself...

Venture into the city of Metronome, a sprawling mass of haphazardly built houses and huge steam engines where the outlandish inhabitants are carrying out their chores day and night. A city where the life of every citizen is dictated by the Corporation, a single bureaucratic entity that owns all the land, the entire infrastructure and all the industries.

Explore winding alleys, skewed rooftops and crowded apartment buildings as you search for proof of the Corporations secret agenda, all while listening for sounds to record. Sounds that can be used for a variety of tasks: fight enemies with loud and destructive sounds, solve problems and confuse citizens by clever usage of the right sound at the right moment, use seductive and melodious sounds to change the mood and behaviour of listeners.

Can't find the specific sound you need? Create it yourself! Shove a bookcase down some stairs, throw a rock through a window or simply annoy someone enough to make them shout at you and then record the result.

WOW! I love these next-gen screenies. Even if games next-gen suck, they are going to look AMAZING! This game sounds like it could be pretty interesting. I like the idea of using sound as your weapons, and especially being able to create and record sounds in-game to use as you may.

I love those graphics! They are reminiscent of Half Life 2, kind of grungy if you know what I'm talking about, and although some would argue that Doom 3 has better graphics, they don't appeal to me as much as the Half Life's, and I hope more games take a similar path graphically in the next generation.

Beautiful graphics. The game sounds incredibly unique, but with originality comes the stigma that it might be a horrible idea and/or completely wrong. A whole game based on sound clips, being able to fight enemies by playing annoying/loud sounds, that sounds kinda sketchy. Am I going to get too annoyed by the sounds I'm playing to defeat my enemies? If so, I don't want to play this game.

They better let you blow enemies heads up with high pitched sounds or else..>:(

I agree very much so Mix, first thing that popped into my head was Half Life 2. Infact... I'm going to go play it now... lol.

no doubt about that, but all the majority of people care about these days are graphics... and developers are well aware of that, and will use visuals to hide theyr games flaws...

but wow... it does look sweet ;)

Good point, Vard. That can easily be said about this generation. Many great looking games that just don't play worth a damn.

I'm no graphics whore by any means. I still consider Beyond Good & Evil to be THE best action/adventure game of this generation. It stands heads and tails above all the rest, IMO. Graphically, it wasn't the most gorgeous, although the design was pretty outstanding in most respects. What made it such a great game to me was the combination of the story w/ the gameplay, which I felt was spot on and exceptional in just about every conceivable way.
