I'm not sure what my wife will let me spend on this thing. All I know is that if it has 90% of the features that have been bantied about, I'm there.

If Bill Gates doesn't personally deliver one to my door...I'll pay about $300 or $400, but at the higher price, I better get a quickie from the chick ringing me up, too.

I'm kinda skeptical of getting one rite away b/c they do some pretty major upgrades to the system cause me and 2 of my friends all have xbox's one has a thompson and we all have different cd trays + they made the 360 easily upgradeable

here's hoping it's a girl...

i don't think i'd pay 400. if there is this rumored value pack at 360, then i'd do that. but i'll tell you one thing. i better not have a dvd tray that craps out in three years again. i've got a cd player that i bought in 1988 that still works. if that tray can keep on keepin' on, then they better get their act together on this 360 tray. if mine breaks like my first xbox did, i'm gonna ship a crate full of the dog crap my neighbors leave out front straight to mr. allard and mr. gates.

I will spend as much as i can get set aside. I will be in my first quarter in college so it will be hard to have a lot of money lying around so probably 400 im hoping.

$300 is my cap. It's not because of me lacking money...I have the money. It's just the principle of exceeding $300. If it releases for more than that, I'll wait for a price drop and spend the money I saved on some games.

Between $300 to $400.... Sounds good to me. When you think about it, that is dirt cheap considering how much power is under the hood.

Yeah, a few friends and I were discussing the pricing of the new new systems, and if they do continue the $300 - $400 trend, It's quite a bit of bang for your buck.

$350 is my max. unless it includes a media center extender. becuase i have a media center pc i might be willing to shell out more for that.

Dj Logical 1

im not going to pay more than 300 dollars, for a simple reason. Because lets see 300 dollars just the system, then you got xbox live, which will be like what 50, and then you got faceplates, which will be a pointless add on, but still just adding up. Then you have Games, which im guessing will still cost 50. And then you will have must have games.
all of a total of 420 i guess, I mean its worth it, but still just thinkin about it using ur money in a next gen console, which will then be just like always beaten by a new one in the future, makes you wonder how much you will spend on it.

You mean you'd be willing to let your parents spend over $500.

Probably $300, it'll depend on many things... how my bank account will be looking, if my roommate at college is rich... you know, lots of things. :D

I shelled out $300 bucks for xbox of $5.75 an hour money... so I'll prolly be able to lay down $300 now pretty easily.

I'ld have to say my limit would be $400 cause your going to buy gmaes with it right away anyway and I usually get the extra controller or memory card with it as well so that crap can easily go up to $600 when you get what you need it will add up. :bang:

I don't care how much it is really because I'm going to get it regardless, plus it come out near my birthday, so the birthday money goin towards that, plus i have a job, so I'm cool, but to bad the games gon be $59.99. But it is all worth it!!!

I personally have to see more of it. All we've seen are trailers that are "probably" rendered, and games that they say will be the 'bomb'....I'll spend whatever it's worth. Microsoft is making a lot of live promisses, with the marketplace and stuff. Damn, if I can make money with my Xbox Even $700 is cheap.

I'm not buying XBox 360 it until Halo 3 comes out. And I'm not buying Halo 3 until I've played it or Im convinced its the best game ever. So hopefully it will be down to AT MOST $300 by then, cause im not spending anymore than that. Especially since I can't get Live at my college, and can only play with other 360 owners on my network. Stryder504
06-02-2005, 04:14 PM
I'm hopin itll cost 300 or even 350, but i wont pay anymore than 400 for anything but a car or computer. If it cost less than 500 bucks itll still be a lot of power for less than the price of upgrading a computer, plus itll have other types of games besides real time strategy. The sucky thing is if the games will really cost 10 bucks more, I already haven't bought anything new since halo 2

This is getting out of hand people. I love my games as much as the next person, but at what price?

We know that the 360 is not going to be under $300, and the games for it are probably going to be close to 70 bucks as well. Soon only the rich well be able to buy the new stuff. Think of the XBOX 900, or whatever it is going to be called. At this rate, it will be close to $1000!!! The games will run close to $100!

Can we do something about this, or are we going to be forced to buy used games for the rest of our lives???

Right now I got my parents holding all my money I get from working with my dad, mowing lawns and chores so I'm not temted to buy anything until the 360 comes out. So I'll pay however much I have by then for the system and any games/acessories I want. I voted for 400 bucks though because I would kinda be a bit pissed at J Allard if he lied to us by going any higher than that.

i don't think i'd pay 400. if there is this rumored value pack at 360, then i'd do that. but i'll tell you one thing. i better not have a dvd tray that craps out in three years again. i've got a cd player that i bought in 1988 that still works. if that tray can keep on keepin' on, then they better get their act together on this 360 tray. if mine breaks like my first xbox did, i'm gonna ship a crate full of the dog crap my neighbors leave out front straight to mr. allard and mr. gates.

I hear that. But i've already decided that I am not buying a next gen console (xbox 360, ps3, or nintendo's offering) until i've purchased a HDTV. Wont have to be super fancy, just either lcd or plasma, 30 - 40 inches. THEN i'll think about getting a next gen console. :D

I'm sorry. But the prices being quoted for the 360 in Canada are simply not acceptable. Well beyond what any sane person would pay for a game console, especially some of the higher-end ones.
If I get one at all..unlikely, as I have yet to win either 6/49 or Super 7...it will be used, a year after its initial release. Bill Gates has enough money, he sure as hell doesn't need any of mine.
I mean..isn't this bucking the trend? Computers and electronics in general are supposed to be declining in price while increasing in power. $700 for a game console?? What is this, 1982?? $200 TOPS. And the games have got to come down in price as well, or the PS3 will RULE the game world for years to come.
Dang, they really do need a shakeup in marketing at MS, don't they?

I'm getting DESPERATE. I'm an American in South Korea. I have a friend stateside that will import the system for me, problem is I waited too late to contact him. I don't know if I can get a pre-order in time. He lives near a "poor community" so as sick as it sounds I'm riding on the fact that few will be able to afford the damn machine. I'm prepared to go all out if necessary for the 360. At this point the OMEGA bundle offered online at Gamestop looks enticing. "Stand back, I have a loaded credit card, and I"M NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!!!!"

Gamestop has some killer deal right now, I traded in 2 of my 3 xbox's (keeping the special one) 50 some DVD's, 30 Some anime's and 20 some Games.. so my trade in value was 989 dollars but since they are running this trade 4 or more items in and get an extra 40 percent on entire trade promotion I went ahead and got a total of 1384ish. I pre ordered the 399.99 premium edition xbox, an extra wireless controller, 2 plug n charge connectors, 1 network adapter. and a slew of games. Right now is the time to take advantage if you have piles of old stuff hanging around and have a local gamestop. They don't have it posted when they will stop the promotion, I'm in los angeles area so it for sure works here!

This whole bs with pre-order linked to a bundle of games (2/5 of which i actually want) with no discount is enough to convince me to wait to purchase my xbox 360 later and just pick up oblivion for the PC instead. Way to go Microsoft and Gamespot!
Way to dampen my excitment with sleazy marketing tactics!

Electronic Boutique and Gamestop both sell the core and premium without being bundled. Core:$299 and Premium:$399. Also it's not Microsoft inventing the bundles it's the clever marketing of the major companies selling the product. So instead of blaming microsoft for all your problems (this is becoming a fad?), why not just head down to a game store offline and preorder that ***** and oblivion!

Good luck with it bro!

I work for blockbuster and we got a memo for people who are going to be reserving 360s. At bb, the regular console is going for 299 and the "Value Pack" is going for 399. The value pack adds the High-Definition capabilities. I also think only the value pack will feature the hard drive this time around. I'll read the memo again and let you guys know all the differences.

Gamestop online does not offer unbundled units. Ebgames online is sold out of units currently, and claims to only offer bundles when they have stock again. Amazon/Toys-R-Us did offer unbundled units, but then backed out and cancelled the outstanding orders. Wal-Mart offers bundles only, and they are out of stock. No one else appears to be offering pre-orders online.

It is also quite likely that Microsoft is actually encouraging (or enforcing) the bundles by policy of distribution. Essentially the same as behavior that they have been prosecuted for successfully quite a few times. Since they stand to only make money on the licensing fees not the units, I really don't see this as a stretch, especially since no online source offers an unbundled unit.

If you have some online source that isn't playing this game, post the link as proof.

It's good to be Canadian. Both Future Shop and Best Buy Canada (no surprise there, they are one and the same) are offering 360 preorders both core and premium unbundled. The only catch is limited quantities, but I know several locations in my area still have it up for grabs.

As for the price, $500 does seem a little unfair since it's up and above the current exchange rate, it seems MS has forgotten that our dollar's been doing a little better lately. That being said, I paid $450CAD + $50 for my original Xbox and remote. Actually, I paid 10% less than that...it's good to have friends at Walmart (flat rate discount).

First of all, being an American, and being PISSED at Best Buy, which is where I go to buy 99% of things I need, if they carry it, I am now pissed even more, for Best Buy in the US is not doing pre-orders for the X360. Not that I will stop going to Best Buy...I am a Rewards Zone member, and so much so that they just gave me a free two year extension on my Rewards Zone account (and considering how much was spent there so far this year and put on the card, I guess I deserve it). As for the X360, Game Stop was more than happy to pick up the ball that Best Buy dropped...$399 system pre-ordered and about halfway paid off. I am severly hoping to have it fully paid off before the NOverember 22 release date so that I don't have to stand in the long line where all the people who haven't paid off the system will be. Game Stop will have a special additional register set up exclusivly for people who have fully pre-paid for the system, and all that must be done is they show their receipt, the data is quickly pulled up on the register, a single click is done to note "received" in their system, and they hand you whichever one you got...in my case, the previously mentioned bonus package w/ all the extra goodies.

Not only are the S-video cable and optical cable already in place and connected to my surround sound receiver (which has a built-in upscaling for video - RCA to S-video and HD, plus S-video to HD), I have already gotten the ethernet cable laid in place, kinda "hidden" (attached to the baseboard running around the edges of the living room, and around the corner) and already plugged into the router. Only thing left is to get the frigging thing, plug the power cord into its connections, plug the other items into the X360, and turn it on...oops, almost forgot one thing - import Xbox Live account into Live Gold, which has even been pre-paid into 2007.

Hope everyone out there enjoys theirs as much as I know I will...especially if ya like RPG's, cause Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is gonna rock from what I have seen so far. Only problem I see for it, as with all prior Elder Scrolls games, is that it will more than likely be delayed. :cuss:

A note to the "DOG"...hope ya don't get ripped. I have seen a LOT of the "get and Xbox 360 free" ads, e-mails, you name it...and I will tell you now...the majority of them are actually scams. As for the rest, you may find out there is more to getting what you want than what you may have realized. They usually have VERY specific rules and guidelines that must be followed, not to mention specific things that must be done in a VERY specific order, and if you miss just ONE item, you lose...game over. The only way I can compare, in reagrds to them, what I mean is this - imagine having to fill out a 50 page report, in triplicate, and not only make sure that every single word is spelled correctly and the grammer is correct, but that every "t" is crossed, and every "i" is dotted, military style. How do I know this, you may ask? I am the victim of one of these things, and I know others who have fallen into the same "trap". I didn't read every single word in the tiny, fine print of all that was required to get my "free" digital camcorder, and in the end I got nothing, other than the realization that I had wasted a lot of time and effort that would have been better spent on plenty of other things. Do what you will with this info. If you actually get it for free, as you believe, then great, but if you don't, don't say you weren't warned. :watchout:

Go ahead and wait for the price drop, but just know that, by doing so, there is a lot you are giving up. In case you didn't know, according to several sources, including a friend of mine who works for microsquish, the $399 package will only be available for a certain period of time, and once they discontinue that package, there is more to lose than just the physical additions you get for that extra $100, for in addition to the hard drive, wireless controller, and other pieces of hardware, on the drive that comes w/ the $399 package is a lot of data, including special HD data, that can ONLY be found on the drive in that package. This extra data is not going to be placed on the hard drive sold individually. Now, the only problem is knowing for how long microsquish plans to have the $399 package available, for I couldn't even squeeze that info from my friend...maybe he knows, maybe he doesn't, but even if he does, he aint telling. They could have it out for a month, 6 months, a year...it's anyones guess. Personally, I sorta-kinda egree w/ you on waiting for a price drop, and that is exactly what I did for the original Xbox. I waited until the day it dropped to $149, and then bought it, but for the reasons above, I am NOT waiting this time. Not only am I getting an X360 when it is released, and the $399 package at that (obviously...duh !!!), I have pre-ordered, and fully paid, mine already. On the day of release, the store I bought it at will have a special line set up (a "VIP line"), and only those who have BOTH pre-ordered ANF fully paid for thier X360 are allowed in that line...basically, we get to cut in front of everyone else in the store (GameStop, if you must know), no matter what they are purchasing...talk about cool treatment. :hardcore:

Well, at least you have one of the two top games (that being Perfect Dark Zero) to be released at/around "THE DAY", but my question to you is, why not the other one. If you MUST ask what the "other one" I am refering to is, then you must be "out of the loop", for it has been about the most talked about X360 game (other than _possibly_ of Halo 3, which won't even be out for several months anyway, so, technically speaking, it doesn't count anyway) - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

No, it WONT record (meaning no DVD-R/RW/+R/RW), and it most certainly wont have an HD-DVD, as there is still no true HD-DVD standard. Basically, the next-gen DVD "market" is still divided between the HD-DVD and blu-ray technology, although certain companies have joined both groups. It seems we may be in for another VHS vs. betamax war...with a possible solution. Just as there were multiple formats being worked on, and considered, before the CD-ROM for mat was standardized, they actually are attempting to see what the possibilities are of working out a single standard that combines the better parts of both HD-DVD and blu-ray technologies. Unfortunately, as with CD-ROM's, in the beginning, there will be more than one (pardon the "Highlander" pun). Personally, I think Sony is making a big mistake going w/ blu-ray drives for the PS3, as their cost per drive is approximately $100 per unit, which will mean either one of two things...they will have to increase the price of the PS3, which will bring more people (hopefully) to the X360, or they will keep the price down to compete against the X360, thus losing much more money per unit, especially when you consider that microsquish can't be paying anymore than $25 max (and more like $20) per unit for the DVD drives for the X360. If I can buy an internal DVD-Rom for less than $40 retail, you KNOW they have got to be paying no more than half that amount, especially considering they are getting them in bulk.

To answer the question this thread is specifically about, the exact answer, living in America, is $432.99 (at least where I am, which has an 8.25% tax rate). Mine is fully paid for, and come 11/22, when I walk into that store and see all those people waiting in the regular line (for those who have only partially paid for theirs, and everyone buying other things), I get to enter the VIP line, allowing me to cut in front of everyone else in the store (except for any others who may currently be in the VIP line as well), show my receipt showing "paid in full", at which point they will just hand me my box...then I get to look at all the dirty faces of the people standing in line as I walk right back out, w/ X360 in hand, while they continue to wait. Sometimes life really IS grand.

Unless s/he stole them, there is ABSOLUTELY NO way s/he could have them. Microsoft won't even be shipping them to retailers until several days before release. Not only that, if you look at what s/he "says" is included with the package, you WILL notice cerain discrepancies compaired to the actual contents, as listed by microsquish...so...once again...anyone ordering through the site listed in his/her posting, all I can say is "buyer beware".

So when the 22 comes around I will pick one up. I am thinking about buying the Percfet Dark game since it was originally planned for the Gamecube. What other games should I buy with it? As with all technologies, as they advance, the prices go up. The great thing (sort of) is that, as these technologies stick around, the prices drop. Look at all prior Xbox and PS2 games...they were all originally $50 when they first came out, but have almost all dropped to $20. Since X360 games can (as required my X360 specs) be HD (up to, and including 1080i), these even more advanced technologies mean even higher production/manufacturing costs. Give it time, and the prices WILL go down.

I'll spend money on this rig when two things happen:
1) They get a game that forces me to buy it (see, Halo:Combat Evolved)
2) The price drops significantly. With a computer and a perfectly good xbox sitting in front of me, why drop $400 on something for novelty value alone.
