I made this cab from the groung up from a sketch that I drew up while riding to a jobsite. I came up with the idea a while ago, using an xbox for its racing games but it was on hold for a long time because of the lack of a really nice wheel. I ended up using the Fanatec speedster 3 (had to modify to fit my hand made dash). I had to dis-assemble the xbox to stick the dvd-drive into the dash (definatly the hardest part of the build) I have a ignition switch (from happs) that ejects the disk tray when you turn the key. For the display, I am using a gateway destination 32" vga monitor with a xvga adaptor so all the games run in crystal clear HD! Yeah! I also swapped out the plastic pedals for a metal arcade pedal set (from happs). I havent hooked up the shifter (yet again from happ controlls), I'll do that when I take it all apart when I figure out what to do about side art. The ash tray, cig lighter(also not hooked up yet) , and dash components are out of a '96 dodge dakota (junkyard- $20, the gauges will be light up from behind and glow blue) and I have a set of brake lights that will eventually go on the back of the machine and light up when you step on the brake. It also has a dome light, a jvc dolby-digital 5.1 surround system- 2 spkrs in dash, 1 above monitor, 2-behind the seat (out of a 80-somthin honda)and the subwoofer is built into the base beneath the seat. I made the base really sturdy (that monitor is a tank!) and with casters so I can move it around. I also made it easy to dis-asslemble (takes about 30 minutes)because it wont fit through a doorway-its too wide. It works like a dream and is fun as hell!

That is very nice. Wish I had the skills to build something like that. I'd never be able to put a quality box togather like that.

Was that a custom arcade machine beside it?

yes. that was my first cabinet restoration/conversion/mame project. Found the cabinet, no monitor-didn't work, for pretty cheap and slapped an x-arcade controller, a computer, and a sound system in it. the X-Racer (as i am currently calling it) is my fourth project but the first that I have built (cabinet-wise) from the ground up.

Never say never, I was not sure if I could do it, until I did it.

I need to get a table saw and a lot more free time before it'll work.

I figured that doing it the way you did your 1st cbinet would be the best place to start. Here in phx there is a guy that sells old cabinets for cheap.
