I only boiled them for about 30 seconds and seemed to work just fine. Make sure the water is at a full boil before placing the disc in. use a wooden stick or handle of a utensil to dip it and hold it in the water. Easiest way.

To remove a special waxy protective coating that is on the discs to help prtect the disc surface. For some reason the Xbox doesnt always like this coating, and some discs may have a little more than others. So boiling them removes this coating, hence allowing the xbox to read the disc. Excessive boling could hurt the disc lacquer, but a quick boil will only "melt" the protective coating. If the lacquer is damaged, then you have a problem as this lacquer is where the data is stamped.

I have never had this happen to me thank goodness. Does boiling help remove scratches?

The scratches are in the lacquer. You can by that Disc Doctor stuff as a quick fix. It fills the scratchs on the disc with a solution that hardens and allows the laser to read the disc again. For those that do not know of the general cd making process, the information on a CD is stamped onto the laquer (the silver or gold part of a disc) while its still soft using a "master stamper" made of glass. This process is called molding. So these cd scratch fixers will work depending on the severity of the scratches. Like I stated above, the wax coating is on discs to give it a little protection but its nots meant to be a shield! LOL! So if that layer of protection happened to be just a little to think, some readers may have a hard time with reading the disc. Hence boiling some of it off.

Anything that can be put on a CD we have done. The company started out just doing the simple shareware discs and independant recording companies. Then the sales crew hammered down a deal with Sony and then Microsoft. Zork III was the first MS title we did years ago. Now whatever the customer wants us to mold and print we do. So yes, games, music, software, dvd porn..lol. Its all there.

Our 500,000 squarefoot warehouse also houses many Xbox, Playstation and gamecube titles as well as thousands of PC titles.
