The New Madden Disapoints...

I read ign's review, they said the new passing system isn't that good and the graphics were not updated that much. The one thing that improved was the commentary. I just hope they fix the problems for the 360 version.

I'm reading that right now... and I got to a part that I have to comment on.

Oh dear god I'm about to defend Madden :( Just shoot me now! (I really would love to have ESPN 2k6) But you know.. when you make a stupid ass comment... it needs to be pointed out.


The easiest way to execute PP is to select your primary receiver before the snap so that you're already looking toward him immediately after the ball is hiked. But then what happens? The defense is reading the QB's eyes and gets ready to break on the ball if you throw it in that direction.

He is just being dumb here.... The Vision Cone is automatically set to the Primary reciever each play... you don't have to do anything. If you don't want to look at him to start, you then have the option to look at a different reciever other then the primary. And no crap the defense reads the QB's eyes... hello they do that in real life. I haven't had much problem with them jumping on my primary reciever on quick routes. The defense does take time to react.. it's not like it's instant.



Another example: during passing plays, as soon as the ball is snapped, the quarterback will drop back in the pocket with his eyes immediately set on a receiver on all plays, except draws. Therefore, anytime the CPU runs a draw play to the running back, his cone will always be focused directly down the center of the field making a draw or delay immediately recognizable, and players can crash the middle of the line. This type of oversight would never have found its way into past Madden installments.

Okay this could have been fixed. They could have had a primary reciever on draw plays.... BUT I haven't tried this yet.. but couldn't you set it yourself before the play? Maybe not... BUT you can set your vision cone to look up the middle of the field.. so do it a few times in the game... then when the draw comes it'll look just like a few of your earlier plays. So small problem.... nothing big.. definitly nothing to say the vision cone sucks.


I'll edit if I find more crap..... Oh and I didn't play Madden 05 much.. It just sucked butt compared to ESPN 2k5.. And the players seemed so small and the camera was way to far way. These two things looked improved to me, but maybe that's just me? Because all I hear people saying is Madden 06 = Madden 05 ..

EDIT: My biggest complaint about the passing is the pump fake is R Trigger... which is used to quickly look at different recievers... I've already had a few occasions where I pull the right trigger then decide I don't want to look to another reciever... therefore my QB Pump fakes which slows him down, which usually has lead to a sack. My other complaint about passing is how slow the QB is at throwing the ball away. Something I don't use often, but when I do has failed just as much as it has worked. I've had DL's 4 yards away from me when I pull that left trigger.. and my QB tucks the ball and gets sacked. It's just wrong.

The last madden I played was 04 but I never really played the madden games that much since 2k came out, I always played 2k more because I liked them more

I think the game is good. I mean its not like 2k in any way. Your not gonna score a million points in this game and i think that dissapoints some people. I had a lot of problems with the 2k series...

i.e. Dropping of the ball on offense and deffense, the running back being almost invincible, and a few other things. I like the more defensive Madden compared to the offensive 2k series.

I think it's a little too hard online. Most of the games I've played I'm lucky if I score 10 points, my offense can never do anyhting. I mean you could say I suck, but even If I do I think its kind of ridiculous to have 5 interceptions and 3 completions as I did a few games ago.

I always played madden 05 and loved it. Madden 06 tried too hard to be different and it ruined the game. I was ranked in the top 200 in the 05 version but in 06 nothing works offensively and i end up barely winning games against crappy opponents 13-10.
It has leveled the playing field between the very good and very crappy players and i think that sucks. Maybe u guys have a diff. opinion though. :bang:

What difficulty level are you all playing on?

I just left it on default since I haven't really played a Madden game (I mean played like for atleast a few weeks) since like Madden 03.

I know I'll need to move it up soon.. since I'm 3-0 in my franchise as the 49ers .. beating the eagles 40-0 ..and the Rams 30-3 ... and the Cowboys by like 30 something to 3

The first few games I played of '06 I didn't really care for it.

Now I love it - it's great. The new passing system is so awesome - especially precision passing. You can place the ball anywhere you want - high, low, left, right. I've completed so many passes to receivers pretty well covered b/c I could place it perfectly.

As for the cone vision passing difficulty - I don't think it's hard at all. I like it. I hoped that it wouldn't be too hard and it really isn't.

I'm playing it on All-Pro and winning - it really isn't that hard. I'll step up to All-Madden once I get more used to the game.

I stepped it up to All-Pro .. played a game vs the Bears to practice..
it wasn't pretty.. I won 7 to 6 .. and only had 114 yards of total offense.

Well I went ahead and stepped it up to All-Pro in my franchise. And I played the Colts. And I won 19 to 14 (I missed an extra point.. then failed on a 2pt later in the game). And I had about 300 yards of total offense *shrug* I don't know how I did so much better against the colts.

Okay I know I'm going to get attacked for this one but, I'm loving Madden. Wait let me explain, I was a fan of Fever for their passing system. I love the read and lead. This year Madden did something like it and I think it adds to the game. It's not perfect but it's an improvement. Hit me back but try the new passing and get used to it and you'll feel more like a qb instead of a button masher.

I lost a game today 14-13 because I didn't make the PA. If I had to choose what I hated most about this games its the kicking. I can't tell you how many times I have botched PAs, kicked it out of bounds on a kickoff, and made 5 yard punts, and its not because I'm not good.

I'm still missing PA's and kicking kickoffs out of bounds once in a while.. it's rather annoying

I actually really like the precision passing...the cone system can get a little weird and sometimes I accidently fake a pass and end up getting sacked. And I'm also having problems with the kicking...but not as much as when I first started playing.....that was horrendous
