Not sure if someone's posted this already (can't see anything on it) - announced this afternoon

Here's a link to the BBC article:

Forgot to say - this is about US$400 for the basic one, and $500 for the full retail pack, at current exchange rate. However, we normally pay more for things than you guys do (original Xbox cost just under $600 on launch).

Told you we pay more - housing is 4x as much in the UK too, but that's a different story ;)

yeah, the US price for the standard is $300 and the one that has a hard drive and everything else is $400....it's still very expensive

Sweetness. I find it amazing how such a powerful system is coming out at such a cheap price!
I think microsoft should have released a Windows product with the 360 so you could turn your xbox into a full computer!

Expensive as hell but I think it will be worth it.

In the UK, games will be £45 ($80 equiv) on launch.
More than the current £35 ($65) we pay for new games at the moment, but the price should still drop.

The difference in opinion on price from both sides of the Atlantic is quite interesting - the US price for the console and games seems very cheap to what we in Europe are used to.

I’m surprised you can get all that for £280 actually; I was expecting the general package to be pushing that a lot.

Good value, by our standards. ;)

that'd be nice, but if it'd mean it'd make the xbox 360 cost more, i wouldn't want it.

I guess I'll be getting the $400 Premium Package.

The premium package includes an Xbox 360, a detachable 20-GB hard-drive, a wireless controller, faceplate, headset, a component HD AV cable, an Ethernet cable, you get high definition right out of the box, there will be content loaded on the hard-drive, high definition videos included, and you will be immediately able to see HD broadcast and also for a limited time, a remote controller.

The Core 360 System is stripped down in comparison. It includes an Xbox 360, one standard wired controller, a faceplate, and a standard AV cable. The $399 package is designed for the high-definition gaming era; the other is designed for a no-frills, current-gen set-up. Presumably both systems come with power cords, though Microsoft's press releases didn't actually include them.

Taking into account that a memory card for $39.99 (€34.99/£22.99) is required for saving games, a headset for $19.99 (€19.99/£14.99) is necessary for Xbox Live play, a second controller sells for $39.99 (€34.99/£24.99), and a remote goes for $29.99 (€29.99/£19.99), totaling $130, the premium price appears the better deal. The above tally doesn't include a hard drive, which costs an additional $99 (totaling $229).

Yeah the premium package is the way to go. That limited time remote will be useful.

there's also the whole wireless deal. People online are saying that the $300 one will come with a wireD controller, but the $400 pack will come with a wireLESS controller

I'm not sure. I don't think so. If yours was first, my apologies.

-Edit- Nope, check the time of the first post and the time of your first post. He had you beat by about 5 hours. :)

But anyway. I think $400 is a little steep, but I'll probably still shell it out like all the other goons. I think it'll probably be worth it.

The Xbox 360 core system -- priced at $299.99 in the United States, ?299.99 in Europe and £209.99 in the U.K. -- will come with the console, a wired controller, faceplate, standard audio-visual cable and an Xbox Live Silver membership. An Xbox Live Silver membership allows you to create a user id, download game content, access the Xbox 360 marketplace and gives Live users the ability to chat with friends. It does not, however, allow users to play games online. To do this, Silver members must upgrade to a Gold membership.

The Xbox 360 fully-loaded system -- priced at $399.99 in the United States, ?399.99 in Europe and £279.99 in the U.K. -- will come complete with the console, a wireless controller, a 20GB detachable hard drive, a faceplate, headset, component HD audio-visual cables, an Ethernet cable, Xbox Live Silver membership and, for a limited time, an Xbox 360 media remote.

Does everything you post have to be a jab at the USA? It's not necessary. Stop trolling.

And I merged this with another thread. Please check the forum before you post something.
