Hey yall,

I'm going to buy a TV as well for my Xbox 360, Right now I'm playing Xbox on my 17' HUGE beige monitor (UGLY AS HELL) So, I want to know if I can use the Hi-Def cappabilities that the Xbox 260 has with this Monitor:

Awsome 19" LCD (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10050641&catid=22334&logon=&langid=EN)

Or, even though it's not LCD, with this:

Panasonic 27" Flat Screen CRT Tube TV (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10060469&logon=&langid=EN)

Help me out Pls :)

The lcd should work if you get the vga adaptor. However, the 27 inch is not hi def so games will not be displayed in hi def.

It won't look great on that monitor, certainly not as good as you're hoping (Without a dedicated scaler which is going to cost you more than the monitor itself). Oh, and btw, Cicero is Future Shop's in-house brand, meaning that monitor is no-name and garbage. Buy a real brand.

Your best bet if you want High Definition is to find a set that's native 720p (that's 1280x720 16:9). If your budget lies below the $1k mark, then stick with that or another CRT TV.

but you would have 8" more inches to view your game on

Go for quality. Just sit a little closer. Size is only important if you need to be away from your set.

For me, It's gonna be tough to have a party of 4 people on X360 release witha 17" monitor. Everybody gets to play on a litle square! Yeah! lol It sucks enough doing that with the normal Xbox. :(

I dunno... My 17" monitor fits on my desk PERFECTLY right now... but I kinda wanted an LCD that would be smaller... I don't know. Does anybody have some stuff in mind for under 400 CAD?

I'd recommend something like this TV: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10058486&catid=11303&logon=&langid=EN#

You won't get much better with anything under 400. I couldn't walk away with a free conscience if I suggested you buy a computer monitor and rig it up to your box. LCD Monitors are built around a specific resolution, and really only look all that good at that resolution. Stray from it and your picture degrades significantly (and you won't find a 1280x720 monitor, not under $400 [no, 1280x1024 will not cut it]). You can try it if you're really keen on having "high definition", but I think you'd be happier with a good clean CRT TV.

If I don't give all my money away to Microsoft :bang:
(And when I think of it, we're the ones who make them rich by feeding them 500 dollars a pop! :bang: )

So, the CRT would be ok... how would I hook it up with my computer then? (I have an ATI Rage 128 (Tuner card) - Dad got it for me last week :p)

But then, It wouldn't matter, I'd end up just staying with my computer monitor, and I'd put the T.V. Elsewhere.... Thanks for the help man. :hail: :) Your awsome! Do you have XBL?

I'm serious when I say this. When I go to buy my tv next year, I want you to walk me through it.

I've been seeing more and more of these 27" CRT HDTVs for around $400 (picked one up actually) and its not going to do HD for most 360 games right off the bat because they seem to all be 720p, but it will do 480p until the games start coming in 1080i and its not much more than a standard 27" TV.

Sorry this isn't CAD, but it might help out someone.

That also isn't in CAD, but its a great deal. 30" Widescreen HDTV for $375. This will work for HD with the xbox 360

Um have you actually bought something refurbished and know from experience? Or are you just saying that. We bought a refurb laptop and its working fine almost 4 years later. We also bought a refurb machine for our workshop that has been working just fine. These are refurbished directly by the manufactured. And, if you are worried just get one of the extended warranties. If I were in the market for a TV, I would definately look at this one.

'look' is definitely the keyword here. You'd want to look at the one they're going to give you before you consider laying any money on it. Cathode Ray Tubes don't hold up forever, and they suffer a fair amount of wear. With a refurbished unit, you're taking your chances. It might be that the unit you get just had sticky buttons, but it might be that the tube is damaged or worn. Personally, I would never invest in a refurbished TV, especially one with a track record as poor as that model, but with some luck, you may end up with a bargain. With sour luck, you may end up $400 down.

Laptops and computers are a bit different. The only major factors with refurbished computers are the screens (only an issue for laptops of course) and hard drives. The problems are fewer, but then the discounted price often isn't as significant unless the store or manufacturer is really trying to get rid of them fast.

Samsung sells a great 23" LCD HDTV screen which can also be used with computers. Check that out. You can find them online for about $700.
