How the hell do I do it?

There's got to be an easier way because my hands are too big to be able to keep rotating the left thumbstick around at a fast pace for very long periods of time - please help me out ASAP - this is so frustrating I'm about to throw my controller through the TV screen.

Don't spin it like crazy, roll it back and forth until you see it start to work, then just hold it in that direction. Keep doing that for each section of the lock.

Or you could just break the lock...
