Aye...starts to feel rather familiar. Just like all the wonderful Canadian content and events that we were promised by Xbox.ca. Unfortunately, I think the pluralization of events was a bit misleading.

It's our big thank you to our most loyal Xbox Live subscribers.

apparently being a Live subscriber since Nov 15, 2002 straight until now doesn't qualify if you're Canadian

I found this was good news so I put it up on the front page. I can't get it but I thought those who can should know about it.

Tell me about it. There is no reason not to offer a free card in Canada as well. It's just poor like the launch of the 360. There should of been more planning, and more thinking things out.

Will the card be eventually offered in Canada?

It pisses me off that this is USA only, it should AT LEAST be North America. I guess giving microsoft 160 can dollars isnt good enough for them to make cards available in canada

The shoddy 360 launch/shortage IS on purpose, and lots of planning went into this, why do you think that a core system even exists?? People go crazy over these things, when there is nothing but a core system left, they take one of those. They go home and say, Oh ****, I need a hard drive, look at that, microsoft made more money off of a core system than a premium system. :D I love how Microsoft screws people over lol.

You guys are being way too quick to blame Microsoft. You should actually be blaming your Canadian government, which makes it impossible to include you guys in many of our deals in the States. Almost all discounts and loyalty deals do not apply to Canada, and many do not apply to the state of California. It is the legislatures that do this in an attempt to harm corporations.

Blame socialism and anti-capitalist whackos, not Microsoft.

Canada has laws against companies to not allow free offers?
And even if this is true, why is it USA only? Why no other countries?
I didn't know Canada was full of socialists either.

Actually, our legislation simply works to separate us from entering the same contests as the US. It doesn't in any way prohibit MS or any other company operating in Canada from starting up an identical offer in Canada. Case in point: the Pepsi Be First to Play offer, which was made available to Canadians through a seperate though fundamentally identical contest.

The shortage though, is simply a poor estimation of producation capabilities on their part. Even Sony has stated, though the quote eludes me now, that faking a shortage would be not only very nearly impossible to cover up, but also a poor marketing decision no matter what angle you look at it from. But some people simply enjoy a good conspiracy, and they'll be damned if any logic or reason is going to stand in their way.

Microsoft has messed up big time. Although I am sad that I can't play on my Chrismas break, I am very curios if Microsoft can pick up the lost sales for Christmas. Christmas is the prime time to sell a product, Microsoft tottaly messed up. Not to mention, they didn't hit their selling "target"

They're more or less on track for their target actually, which wasn't based on a pre-christmas time limit, but for the end of the fiscal year (June 30). The excess units in Japan will sell slowly, but they can simply allocate more of the new units to Europe and North America (there's also the Australia launch to come too). At this point, they're still pretty much guaranteed to sell every unit they've put out.

So, despite the perceived shortage locally, they've actually sold a lot of units. It's just that unlike every other console launch in the past, they're being shared out amongst most of the world, instead of just North America or just Japan.

If you think they "messed" up on their pre-Christmas sales, I'd love to see what you'd suggest they try, given their manufacturing capacities. Certainly building up a larger stockpile before launching later on wouldn't change the number of units available before Christmas...

I'm not a marketing genious (by far) but I think that they should have delayed the launch for about one month. That way, they would of put it on the shelves in time for Christmas, and more people would be happy. (those who can be pleased)

They should not have made it an International launch, even though I know that lots of people respect Microsoft for that. If there was no international launch, there would have been many more units for the U.S. and Canada. Oh well though, dont want to go too off topic, eh? ;)
