I need help!!

:crying: My xbox stopped playin' everything!! it won't load movies. I need to find someone to install a new reader or something! i'm lookin' for someone in my area who i can pay to fix it. I've had my xbox for years and i don't want to toss it! i mean, i just bought a new game for it! Anyways, i live in San Rafael, CA........ please hit me up if your in the area and would like to make some quick cash fixin' up my babie!!:crying:

hmmm...you dont really need anyone to come over..the problem is your disk drive is dieing. first thing you could try is buying a lens cleaner at radio shack if that doesnt fix your problem then your going to have to replace the dvd drive on your xbox because they cant be fixed.

buy either a new samsung or phillips drive ..something like this

you will also need a special screwdriver TORX number 15 to take out the xbox screws which are hidden under the rubber feet but you void the warranty on the xbox by opening it. plug in all parts to the places where your old one is plugged into and your good to go.

if the parts are too pricey for you then save your time and money and just get a new xbox. also If you decide to replace the drive i can probably send you some links to help you out.

yesh! i do need a new drive! i'm a little freaked out about doin' it myself though. I'm not worried about the warranty because i've have it for like 3yrs already............ i just don't want to do anything that's gonna mess with the hard-drive, i have lots of music and saved games on there that i don't want to lose.......... so if there's still someone in my area who needs to make a quick buck, please hit me up! i'll buy the parts or whatever it needs....... i really love my xbox, it's been with me through so much ****.

you could always buy the dvd drive while you find someone to do the switch for you. if you cant find anyone you could try it yourself since the hard drive isnt affected by anything you attempt to do with the dvd drive.

if you need some guides on how to open your xbox and switch the dvd drive im sure you can find some on google.

my only other concern is that your xbox is already old and the power supply unit might be dieing out too..but i dont know how long they are supposed to last anyway. If everything fails you might try and buy a new xbox and just switch the hard drives.

i think xbox-scene.com is a good place for guides and such.

Or you could always do what I did and just bought a new / used xbox, the disk drives of the newer ones are alot better than the older ones, they have holes on the disk drive... I forget why but I do know it's alot better. Plus it costs alot less and wastes alot less time to do.

thanks guys! i'm searchin' for a new drive on ebay......... maybe i'll just scap it and get a 360, but it just sucks because i'm attached to the damn thing! plus what about all my games? can you play them on the 360? or are you just doomed to buy all new games?:confused:

The best sellers from the xbox is allowed to be played on the 360, if i'm not mistaken I do remember a list on Xbox's official site that shows which games will be compatible for Xbox 360. But yes the 360 would be a much better investment than buying another xbox or anything for it.

could you check what type of drive you have in your xbox? i have a samsung im trying to fix on my old xbox dvd drive but i need some new gears because mine arent working properly. id be willing to buy it from you for a fair price since yours doesnt work either.

modding a drive to play on your xbox wont allow it to play original xbox games...heres a similar drive to what your looking for and on the website it says it will not read original xbox games but it will still play DVD's i assume.

i don't think that's the right one.......... i need a BLG......... not the one your showin' me. Plus, i'm not the one fixin' it......... and friend is and this is what he asked me to get....? i'm broke right now, so i can't afford sh*t til i get some money......... so i have a few weeks to find excately what he needs to replace it.
