Newsflash:
Xbox Live Download Total Passes 24 Million
Xbox Live® was and is the world's only unified online gaming and entertainment network. Where can Xbox® and parent company Microsoft go from there? They can turn Xbox Live into the world's largest platform for on-demand high-definition media content, achieving 24 million downloads in the six months following the launch of Xbox 360™ in November, 2005. A huge contributor to this unprecedented media domination was the success of this year's Electronics Entertainment Expo.
Xbox 360 users were invited to be part of the Expo through "E3: Bringing It Home," with a free week of Xbox Live Gold access, presented by Verizon in the U.S. and by adidas in Europe. More than 1.5 million unique users logged into Xbox Live last week during E3, and were able to experience tons of exclusive previews and media coverage not available to the public. In the single week of E3, Xbox Live users downloaded more than 5 million pieces of content, among them the breathtaking and rabidly-awaited Halo® 3 trailer. Users were also able to download exclusive game content for titles like Call of Duty® 2 andThe Elder Scrolls IV®: Oblivion™. Gamers were also able to experience music videos, movie trailers, and footage of their favorite celebrities competing in multiplayer sessions through Xbox.com's Game with Fame.
Peter Moore was able to simplify it the best. "The sheer volume of downloads during E3 week was simply staggering. To put it in perspective, all the printed material in the U.S. Library of Congress is estimated to be about 20 terabytes, and Xbox Live delivered 30 times that amount in just 7 days." Moore, VP of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft, is often the public face associated with the most exciting announcements about Xbox and Xbox 360.
The top ten downloads during E3: Bringing It Home:
Halo® 3 Game Trailer (Microsoft Game Studios)
Lost Planet™ Free Playable Demo (Capcom)
Test Drive® Unlimited Free Playable Demo (Atari)
MotoGP '06 Free Playable Demo (THQ)
X-Men: The Last Stand Picture Pack (Twentieth Century Fox)
Gears of War® Game Trailer (Microsoft Game Studios)
Call of Duty® 2 Skirmish Map Pack (Activision)
Spider-ManTM 3 Game Trailer (Activision)
Fable® 2 Trailer (Microsoft Game Studios)
UNO® Xbox Live Arcade Game (Microsoft Game Studios)
30 times as much as the library thingy is awesome 'specially in one week.
