xbox live and halo 2

I'm just getting ready to get xbox live I have about 8 to 12 guy that come over and play halo 2. Can we all still play set up in a network and log on to xbox live to play with more people or what is our best option and if so please explain it all to me I'm a newby completely thanks

only 4 (3 guests) can log onto one GT at a time using one box.

So the most people I can play with live is 4 on halo2
