can i use my hd to play vids

i got the xbox 360 core system without the hard drive koz i thought i could use my own external one but i cant access videos on it . the music plays fine but when i go to videos it says no videos found . is it just the xbox 360 official hd that works with this or can i use my own some other way?

You must purchase the Xbox 360 hard-drive and simply connect it to your console unless you modify it, but, we don't talk about those issues here at XBA.
