...invented by yours truly. :hump:
One of my favourite activities in the GTA series which was the clincher in deciding to get Saint's Row was the ability to Car Surf. This simply consisted of running out infront of a car, jumping on the hood, then crouching on the roof as they drove you around town. Fire off a couple of rounds and they start to drive with less care.
1st thing I checked when I d/l'ed the SR demo was if their physics engine would allow it, and it does, so I bought the game. Only then did I realise the possibilities contained within! Read on...
Extreme Car Surfing:
Okay, first thing's first, get yourself to Los Carnales mansion (Assuming you've finished the story and own it) then get yourself wasted so you spawn at the hospital. (Or you can just drive there if you know where it is). Once there, run over to the wall that is to the right as you look away from the hospital, climb onto it.
Now get out your mobile (If you ain't done that before, it's in the pause/map screen, use the shoulder buttons I think to scroll along to it.) Now go to 'dial' and enter: '#38452277' (Spells #EvilCars) and press call - it should tell you that the cheat 'EvilCars' has been unlocked. Select it in the cheats menu and activate it. (It will give you a warning about nullifying your further progress, ignore it, it's not like we're gonna save it later anyway.
Now when you unpause, you'll understand why you're up on that wall. Every car in sight tries to nail you, which is where the 'Extreme' part of this Car Surfing comes in. From the wall you jump onto one of these pyscho's cars. Now this bit is important and when I discovered it I nearly cried with joy.
Depending on where you stand on the car causes the driver to steer & drive in a certain direction. If you put an imaginary point in the middle of the car in line with the drivers position, that's where you start. Directions:
Front of hood, he'll go forward.
Front Right corner, he'll turn right, severity dependant on how close to the edge you go.
Same with the Front Left... he'll turn left
A step behind the driver position line and he'll reverse
Behind and to the Right and he'll reverse to the right
Same with Behind and to the Left, he'll reverse left.
Now what this means, is that you can literally Surf the car. No more just hitching to see where he wants to go (GTA) no more panicked flee (Non cheat mode Saint's Row), now we are in control of this car turned surfboard.
Now as a challenge, to help you fine tune your surfing skills, the challenge is to get from the hospital to the airport (Where there is no traffic and you are free to practice until you can surf it up a ramp). Now every other car in sight is out for your blood, you'll have to weave in and out of traffic, and in many cases jump from surfcar to surfcar... that's allowed. What you aren't allowed to do is A: Try to run it on foot, B: Use your guns to kill the Psycho cars or C: Drive a car yourself.
These actions are against the code of the Extreme Car Surfer. ;)
If you are anything like me, this will keep you occupied for DAYS, it prolonged the game once I'd completed it and after introducing my brother to it he's similarily hooked.
Some cars/trucks are better than others, shop around, jump from car to truck to armoured car, you'll soon find your favourites. If you get knocked off and hit the tarmac, run for the nearest wall, if you live long enough that is...
So... Surf's Up Addicts!
(I emailed this to the games designers, incase they were unaware of this marvel they had created, who knows, maybe they're Extreme Surfing as we speak)
