Xbox live connection issue

Yeah, there is a problem of connecting to xbox live. Whenever I try to connect, it says the network gateway could not be reached. I put of my addrresses and gateways and etc, but it still won't work. Is there anyway I can solve this? I would appreciate it if you helped me. Thanks.

Have the Xbox 360 automatically search for connections, instead of entering them yourself.
If that doesn't work, then what are you using to connect. Wireless or by Ethernet?

Well, i just have the regular xbox. Im using two universal broadband links. My computer is upstairs with the router and the tv with the cable modem is in my room, which is also on the same floor as the computers. and im using ethernet cables.
