Well, I got a preowned Xbox and I've been it a bit over the past couple of days.

So.. when I switch the xbox off using the button below the power button and unplug it, then plug it back in when i want to play it the next day, it goes back to the time/date screen.

Though, if I plug it in later on the same day it works fine and doesn't give me the time/date screen.

Is this because I am unplugging it? do i have to keep it plugged in to stop it doing this.

keeping the system plugged in will make the clock work. and you wont have to keep reseting it.

The Xbox does not have a traditional CMOS battery like your computer does. The Xbox has an aerogel capacitor which retains a charge for about 5-10 minutes after it looses it's main power to the power supply. This is to protect the system clock from power hiccups.

Leave your Xbox plugged into the wall, there's nothing wrong with doing that.

Thanks for your help!

I feel a bit silly after asking that....

I will keep it plugged in and just make sure my baby sis can't get at it lol.

Don't worry.. the first week I bought an Xbox, I moved into a new apartment. Every time I wanted to play, I had to reset the clock and I kept thinking that this was a bunch of crap that it wouldn't stay set.

A few days later I realized that the light switch turned on and off the outlet the Xbox was plugged into. A lamp was supposed to be plugged into that outlet.
