Please Please Help Connecting to xbox live with windows vista

Hi

I really hope you can help me I have been looking through the forums for about an hour and I really can not find what I am looking for.

Here is my problem I am wanting to connect my xbox 360 to my laptop which is on a wireless network to firstly connect to xbox live and also to use the windows media centre options.

I am currently running windows vista (Which I have heard is not a good thing :-( ) I will be connecting the xbox 360 to my laptop via the supplied ethernet cable, I have already attempted this but when the xbox tries to detect my network settings it picks up the xbox is wired but fails when trying to obtain my IP address.

I have checked microsoft website but this really hasn't helped.

What I am hopefully looking for is a step by step process on how to do the above or maybe a link on another forum that might help.

You have to make sure that ICS is turned on.
If you go to the properties of your wireless card you should have an option for "allow other users to share this connection".
Once you enable that you should be gold. If not check M$ for info on Internet Connection Sharing.
Oh and I have Media Center on my machine... the vid streaming is stupid.
If you want to steam MP3 accross which is cool just load them into Windows Media Player 11 and theres an option to share songs accross the network.

Thanks for your reply I have set my internet setting from private network to public netowrk so my internet connection can be shared this still does not solve my problem.

I use to run this laptop on windows XP and it worked fine since updating it to vista I started having problems.

I can not actually find anywhere a setting that allows me to click internet conneciton sharing.

Any more help would be great

Can you not get on live at all?
If you can but can't get to your media, you should just need the media extender.
Mind you looking around it looks like people are having all kinds of issues running vista with anything other than ultimate

Hi i can not get my xbox to connect to the internet, in my network section on computer i have two networks shown one being my wireless all ok the other being my L.A.N which saids connect to local only not like my wireless connection that saids connect to local and internet.

I have been on the phone to xbox helpdesk they have phoned me a couple of times and can not resolve it either so I am going to admit defeat and give up.

I was ready that everyone with out Vista Ultimate is having a lot of problems with live working.
I'm going to buy home premium in the next couple months so we'll see how it goes.
