First of all, I haven't been on these boards in a couple years so I just figured I would say hello to everyone again. I hope all is well with all of you, I see some familiar names from way back when I used to frequent this place. I'm still here pretty often, I just haven't participated in a looooong time.

Anyways, I have a question that I thought you here at XBA might be able to help me with. I'm away at school now, and my apartment has it's internet connection through the school's network. Unfortunately, this network does not allow Xbox Live. However...I connect to my neighbor's wireless network with my laptop, and I get a great connection strength. More importantly, his connection is not associated with the school's network.

So my question is this: if I buy the 360 wireless network adapter, will I be able to get as good a connection from this guy's network for my 360 as I get with my laptop?

I got a chance to play the demo of Crackdown at a friend's place the other night and I've decided that I might just get it when it comes out, I haven't bought a game since NFS: MW so why not?

Thanks everyone!

Yes, you should. I have the wireless adapter for my 360 and I actually get a better signal with the 360 then I do on my laptop.

BTW, welcome back to XBA!

Hey Papke, what's up?

You can get on your neighbor's wireless network no problems as long as he doesn't have a security code on it. If your laptop can access the internet no problems, then get the wireless adapter and let the 360 find that network.

After the hurricane, I couldn't get my cable internet back for months due to repairs. However, DSL was up and running quick. I just accessed my neighbor's network because they had no security.
Later on, I used to play Xbox Live on my own network and download big files on their network.

If the guy is any kind of smart, he would wonder who was the extra assigned IP address on the DHCP client list, but if he's not running security on a wireless network, he probably doesn't know how to check for that.

Anyway you'll be good to go.

Good deal, thanks guys.

The guy next door either doesn't know or doesn't care. I really do get a great connection strength when I use his network, and I've been doing so since I moved into this apartment last semester. I can't wait to get back on Xbox Live, especially after I get Crackdown. I just played the demo once and I was hooked.

But yeah, I think I might be back around these parts every now and then. After I bought my motorcycle last summer I realized what an invaluable source of information boards like these can be. Plus, some of you guys are pretty darn cool, haha.

See ya around fellas.
