It's true! here's the digest version: Two new maps, both available on April 17th through the Halo 2 downloader in the game itself, and it's just $4 for the pair.The maps ar Tombstone and Desolation - remakes of Hang 'Em High and Derelict, respectively.

It's an original Xbox download, so there's no way to use MS points - and you WILL need an Xbox Live Gold account to download and play, since the original Xbox (even in BC mode) can't tell the difference between gold and silver. But you CAN use these on 360, just so we're clear. You just need to use a credit card for the purchase, instead of marketplace points. Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the upcoming release of two new, eagerly awaited downloadable maps for “Halo® 2.” The maps will be available as premium downloadable content for Xbox® and Xbox 360™ on April 17.

Fans of the original “Halo” have long requested the addition of some of their favorite maps to the critically acclaimed multiplayer experience of “Halo 2.” These re-creations, developed by Bungie and Certain Affinity Inc., are a perfect way to thank fans for their support as they surpass 800 million hours of “Halo 2” gaming on Xbox LIVE®.

4 bucks? That's cheap! Especially for Hang Em' High and Derelict remakes, arguably two of my favorite Halo 1 maps!

I may have to blow every inch of dust off my Halo 2 disc and get warmed up again. This is pretty kick ass if you ask me. Sure, it's Halo 2, and anyone that knows me knows that I'm not nearly of a big fan of Halo 2 compared to Halo 1, but, I still think this will definately keep me pumped up ready and waiting for Halo 3.

I haven't even played my XBox 360 for a long time now only because I've been traveling a lot and I have been so busy. My company launched our new brand and it takes a lot of long hours. This definately got me pumped up to start playing again, though!

Chiron was fun when playing King of the Hill....I always like it for that...other than that, I rarely played it. Boarding Action was another one that I didn't play often...but, Snipers only with the secondary being the Pistol always made it fun once in a while :)

This isn't a double post, just so you guys know - the one above was made a while back...

Anyway, I walked through the new Halo 2 maps. I love what they did with Hang 'Em High...it still has the Hang 'Em feel to it, which I really enjoy - now I just have to get a Custom game going since it can't be played during Matchmaking yet. I'm not quite sure when it can.

The other one that is supposed to be a remake of Derelict is kinda cool - it's going to be a definate blood bath with a lot of chaos. I guess I need to play it with a bunch of people to give a better assessment.

I can definately see a lot of good times ahead with these two new maps for Halo 2. Of course, anyone that knows me knows that I strongly prefer Halo 1, but, Halo 2 has been growing on me a lot more - especially games that don't have a lot of duel wielding.

As an aside, in Halo 3, I guess they are going to start with a weapon that isn't duel wieldable and make duel wielding a "special" thing, which should drop the duel wielding abuse to a minimum, which is great news.

I don't mind paying for them, but, it sucks to have to pay for them and then not being able to play them unless a bunch of friends are on-line playing a custom game for now. It would be cool to have made them free and circulated them into Matchmaking since Halo 2 doesn't have a server list.

Yesterday I played Single Flag CTF on that map with 16 people and 8 people on each team and I'm going to say that that's probably the most fun I've ever had playing CTF in all of my Halo 2 career. That map is by far the best for CTF IMO. It was definitaly fun, I sure as hell wouldn't mind playing it again, perfect map for it.

Bungie pushed back the update for matchmaking, so the new maps still aren't available for matchmaking. Bungie and MS are working on fixing the issues with the downloading of the new maps, some people still can't download them. Bungie also said the update should be released next week or once the issue is taken care of with the new maps.

Sidewinder is fun to me, but, I always preferred Blood Gulch, the other map with vehicles. I always preferred Hang Em High, Prisoner, Damnation, etc...smaller maps because I have never been a die hard for a map with vehicles. And, even if I played with vehicles, I only prefer Warthogs only - I can't stand Ghost Ships or Tanks (or anything else like Halo 2's Wrath's).

I couldn't agree more. The Assualt Rifle, when I first saw it, was awesome during the Campaign, I thought. But now, I always dart for the Pistol, which are few and far between in the Campaign, sadly.

And yes, the Pistol single handidly made Halo 1. It was the best overall weapon - perhaps an accident by Bungie - who knows? I loved the range that it had - and that it required good accuracy. Halo 1 was based on skill because of the Pistol because everyone had one - not based on what weapon the other guy has in Halo 2. And in no way was the Pistol the best weapon in every situation in Halo 1, of course. I mean, the Sniper was key, the Rocket Launcher was key, and the Shotgun was ruthless in Halo 1 up close.

I miss the plasma rifle's ability to freeze...man it was so fun playing Halo 1 while plastering them with plasma bullets only to put down the competitor with a hearty slap on the back of the head putting him to his death! Good times...

The BR is basically the new pistol just not as far ranged or as powerful, which is why I think Halo 2 is more balanced. Halo 2 is more about teamwork than individual skill, you want your team to have all the power weapons yet you still want to have BR's too as they are decent for a lot of situations. And I honestly think that it was good they took out the HP in Halo 2 as well because nobody ever really has an advantage or a disadvantage anymore, which means you have to use more strategy and tactics.

I dunno, I liked Halo 1 a lot but I just think that Halo 2 is more balanced in terms of weapons and map control.

It's most likely a problem with Bungie. I was having trouble updating Halo 2 when the update first came out so I just used my friend's disc (because mine was all scratched up) and it worked fine. So it might even be because your disc is too scratched up.

Yeah, that is pretty crap if you ask me. But, atleast they'll be incorporated into matchmaking and people will finally get to see how sweet the new maps are (especially the new Hang Em High map - the other one - eh...it's okay).
