I believe that MS is doing what any great company does; copying what already works and improving on it.

So far I would have to say they are doing the exact same thing with the xbox, and who is their prime model for execution...it's sega and their beloved Dreamcast.

Sega knew they couldn't win by going after the young audience, which it is controlled nicely by Nintendo, nor could they go after the teen-adult market since Sony has that wrapped up. They decided to after the hardcore gamer first and then slowly make their way into Sony's turf. Unfortunately; they didn't have the money to survive long enough to make it to that stage. They had to cancel the DC early.

MS on the other hand has plenty of funds to keep them going through the rough early times and then slowly build upon it. That's what they're doing right now, they are targeting the hardcore gamer and the gamer who likes things different, stuff that is innovating and new. ie. JSGR, Munch, Wreckless, Circus Maximum, etc. This will get them into the picture and then they'll slowly start to go after the casual gamer. It's a strategy that would of worked with the DC if it could of stayed afloat, and now MS will see it's execution to the end.
