Having trouble setting up system link. Help?

When we built our house, we ran CAT-5 from most rooms down to the basement. Now we can't get the link to work.

Are all the games updated to the same version? I'm not really sure, be more specific.

We link all the time, but we wired our entire house with home runs to the basement. The games are the same, all the wiring is the same, and the ports are the right type. The hub we're using usually works, but we just can't get it to work.
