The title says it all, but after about an hour and a half of playing the beta tonight, I am completely sold on this game. Graphics are stellar! Gameplay is completely solid! The perk system is a great addition, along with the challenges and ranking system.
I will probably play this all day Friday and into the wee hours of the morning. Also, there is a Party system, ala Halo online, so you can invite friends and jump into rooms together.

Compare the graphics to the Gears Of War standard that has been set if you will sir.

The beta is completely on par with the likes of Gears of War...If not better. Personally, its the best looking game to date that I have seen on the 360, including GoW. Foliage, building detail, character models are all outstanding. Especially the sniper in full gear. Its amazing how well it blends in with the long grasses.

the Beta is stellar, imo. I'm enjoying it.
there are a few hiccups, of course, but nothing major, in that IW has already fixed it in the release build, and the fixes just need to be applied to the Beta build.
Create A Class = AWESOME. Basically you get 5 Custom Loadouts that you can make. the Loadouts consist of:
Primary Weapon (Plus Attachments)
Sidearm(Plus Attachments)
Special Grenade (you only get 1, unless you burn a Perk to get extras)
Perk 1
Perk 2
Perk 3
the Perks system is very solid, although a few of the perks are annoying as hell, like Deep Impact(Shoot Through Walls) and Last Stand(pull out your pistol and get some last shots in while you lay on the ground dying). they aren't bad, or overpowered or cheap or anything...just annoying as hell when everyone uses em. hopefully we get a larger selection of weapon accessories in the full game in the Beta there is only two Scopes, and a Grip.
the guns are very solid, with the exception of the possibly overpowered M21 Automatic Sniper Rifle. (I prefer the M249 SAW, myself. Light Machine Guns are beastly)
for any curious, my most common Loadout for the Demo is as follows:
Primary Weapon - M249 SAW w/ Desert Camo (until I unlock Digital Camo)
Sidearm - M9 w/ Silencer
Special Grenade - Stun
Perk 1 - C4 x 2 (2 Bricks of C4)
Perk 2 - Stopping Power (Increased Bullet Damage)
Perk 3 - Steady Aim (Increased Hip-Fire Accuracy) (<---i.e. non-zoomed, non-Iron Sighted)
I have a couple other loadouts that I used to try out other weapons, but this one here is my primary and favorite set-up.

Today, I only played about 4 rounds...while the graphics in the game are very good, I don't find this nearly as fun as Halo.
Everything is isolated...very urban, which is to expect. If anyone is looking for a game to demolish Halo, this isn't the game. For what it is, it is the best of it's genre that I have played...best war multi-player I've played and I haven't played much. Tomorrow, I plan on playing a lot more.
One thing I noticed, you can kill a lot of time playing this game. A lot of it is a little confusing...I ranked up to a 4 after four games, so, ranking up isn't too difficult.
I don't want to be the guy that urinates in everyone's cornflakes, but, so far, I'm not feeling it. For those that don't know me, just know that I love First Person Shooters.
The HUD seems too large...the weapons take a considerable amount of space up on your screen. Zooming it takes up more than half of your screen and I find it pretty annoying.
While the soldiers running around is fluid and almost real, some of the movements are a little abnormally fast. For instance, a person standing at a dead stand still doesn't accelerate like a real person...it's like you're full speed at the first step, which isn't natural, so, that part looks a little fake looking and takes away from the fluid realism at full speed.
So far, I find the game "okay", but, I'll be able to give a much better impression after tomorrow.
Again, I hate to be the guy that plays "Devil's Advocate", but, at this point, I'm not sold on this game.
I played one game that was so laggy that it was unplayable. I recall this from playing COD2 and COD3 while on-line. It was ridiculous...completely unplayable and it was the last of the four sessions I played, so, it easily left me with a sour taste in my proverbial mouth. On a more positive note, the first three were flawless...no lag whatsoever...atleast not noticeable.

Okay, I've played a lot more now...I'm capped out and am ranked 11. They said that the ranking is capped but they will open up the cap as time goes on during the BETA.
The game is growing on me a lot more. Graphically, the game is stellar. I still notice unnatural player movement in multi-player, though. It doesn't look as disturbingly real all of the time..just partial. When players make a hard cut to one direction, they don't move fluidly in appearance. Maybe this will be fixed in the final version...who knows
The game gets a lot more fun when you master your weapon and get all necessary attachments. If you haven't started yet, start with the AK-47 until you unlock everything that attaches to it. You have to get so many kills to unlock certain attachments. Once you unlock better weapons, use those and master those until they are built up.
I find the game almost too chaotic with a full room because the maps are relatively tight (except for Overgrown, which is a decent sized map).
What's frusterating is the range on a lot of the weapons. I'll have an enemy in my crosshairs, shoot, and nearly kill the guy but he'll react and shoot me once and kill me with a more powerful weapon. Obviously, aiming for the head is the rule of thumb in this game which is what is needed to get the kill a lot of the time.
But, the bottom-line is, if you're a person that is looking for a game to dominate Halo, this is not the game. While I still find this game to be the best military style game I have ever seen and played, it's still no Halo.

Ya, but I wouldn't consider Halo a military style game, sO i see them as two different games to wait for. And besides, I won't even be buying Halo 3, just renting for the campaign.
I don't think any game can touch Halo in terms of scope, simply because it set the bar for shooters, and to raise that bar, someone will have to introduce something new to the genre besides perks, and perfect whatever it is they introduce on the first shot. That's the difference between a good idea, and a good game.
Also, anyone try MOH: Airborne yet? The demo was pretty fun.

Yeah, but, don't let my opinion get your hopes down. The game is definitely solid...especially for a BETA. I imagine that the final version of the game will be a lot better. This has to be the best BETA I have ever played with any style of game. And, like I said before, this is, by a landslide, the best military style shooter I have ever played...it kicks the crap out of GRAW, which I was a big fan of...but, I wasn't a big enough fan to buy GRAW 2.
If Halo 3 wasn't coming out this month, I would consider buying COD4. I may still buy it after a few months. But, like I said, this is not a Halo killer by any means. I guess it depends on the person...but, I even asked guys who I was playing with and they all said that they are really looking forward to Halo 3. I said out loud "This game is awesome, but, it's still no Halo" and every single person that responded agreed. I predict that there was about 8 people that responded out of 12.
The three maps they provided are pretty different. One is big, one is medium, and one is pretty small. All of them are pretty good maps.
My peeves include the jumping (tiny jump). Also, when trying to crawl over something or jump over something, it asked you to toggle the "A" button and you have to pretty much be perfectly square up to the object to allow the function to work.
I've only played Team Deathmatch....there is also a Free-for-all mode and an objective mode. There is also another one that I can't remember off the top of my head...I haven't tried it yet.
It seems to me that the game is extremely repetitive. It sort of bugs me that you can't carry an Assault Rifle and a Sniper. It's one or the other, but, you can have a secondary handgun. You can also pick a special grenade. You have three "Perks" you can add...like being able to cause more damage, have better health (takes more shots to kill you), last stand (if someone kills you, you don't actually die quite yet...you lay on the ground grabbing your secondary gun and try to spin around killing people before you die), and several other things. Many of the ideas are pretty cool, but, again, the game seems extremely repetitive overall.
I wish you could check out the BETA. I can't believe how easy it was to sign up...I'll do this again with any game for now on!

I'm just providing a devil's advocate approach. You're completely right...this game is far different from Halo. Like I said, it's the best military style shooter I've ever played personally...
I'm sure that COD4's campaign will be freakin' awesome. As for the multi-player, I just can't see myself playing this game longer than 3 months...in fact, I would say 2 months. As for Halo, I can see myself playing that for several years.

You know, as much as I have played, I still am not able to open up the Perk that allows you to shoot through walls. What would you say is the best method in unlocking this Perk?
I mean, should I start mastering a certain weapon?
