networking card?

ok i need to know what kind of networking card to get i think this one is ok but can someone tell me if its ok?

That one looks fine. Now-a-days just about any NIC will do the job just fine. As long as the price is right. I just picked up a new NIC (10/100) for $10

thanks but will the plug in thing be big enough and how do i get it in the back of the things? do i also have a certain type of hub?

Ok, let me try to answer this one. RJ-45 is standard ethernet plug (also called Cat-5) As far as putting it into your computer there should be some instructions with it or if you want I can give you directions (via email or windows messanger it's not hard)

As far as the hub goes just about any will work just fine. I've got an el-cheapo linksis that I picked up for $20 a few years ago.

If you are going to be using this all for playing Xbox online (and why wouldn't you?!?) make sure you read the instructions that go with the software involved (e.g. Gamespy Game Tunnel)

any nic is fine... no matter how cheap. just make sure it supports both 10 and 100 Mbit transfers. the 100 Mbit helps. for LANs

so is the gamespy software stuff free? doesnt it cost 20$ if you download it without the commercial thing?

Yes, it costs $20 to register it, BUT you can download it as shareware and deal with the advertisements. I'd recommend registering it if you use it a lot, but just because they do some great work. The Gamespy Tunnel Software was on their website like the day after the Xbox was released (maybe even before) and I'm a big fan of Gamespy/Fileplanet.

I don't think DLINK makes Win XP drivers for this card. However, it does seem to work with whatever drivers XP installs by itself.

good ole dlink 530
this thing works great. It's cheap and most Os's have the drivers builtin for it. I have about 4 of them here :)
