Legendary Edition question... (very dumb, I am)

First of all, I finally have a 360, as well as the Legendary Edition of Halo 3. Sadly, my 360 is over at my sisters house right now, and I wont be going over there to pick it up 'till Saturday.

Now on the halo 3 Essentials it says to put the game disk in first...

1. Why? (just curious)

and 2. Can I go ahead and play the bonus disks on my dvd player, without having played the game on my xbox yet?

Because, without putting in the disc, you won't be able to play the game.

I haven't tried. Go ahead and try - it won't hurt anything if it doesn't work.

The essentials disk has some spoilers in the interviews. It also has a cool feature that let's you tune your audio and video to maximize your Halo 3 goodness.
