This is why points, and point totals are completely meaningless. The 15 points you get for doing something in Mass Effect is the same 15 points you get for finishing the tutorial on Viva Pinata. The people that rent games like King Kong and Madden '06 can have 100K gamerscores and it tells you squat.

I think achievements are bad for videogaming. They get people playing a sub-game that MS wants you to play, which is to buy/rent crappy games just for bizarre social status.

I like it better when these rewards are done in-game, like the bonuses you collect in Ratchet or Uncharted. Or the perks you get in COD4. I guess the system reminds me of how creepy Pogo.com gets, with old ladies playing a game they hate, and don't understand, because they are focused on collecting a pixelated "badge".

Remember it's not MS who decides what/how ahcievements are given in games, it's the developers. So if EA wanted to give you 1000 points for pressing start on their new sports game, they can. It has nothing to do with MS.

It was a brilliant stop by MS to get people to buy games and specially ones that are corss platform, as I know people that will buy the 360 version for achievements rather than for ps3 etc.

I think Achievements are the best thing since sliced bread!!!! I absolutely love getting them and increasing my gamerscore. I dont care if the achievement is easy or hard, its still a sense of accomplishment. And I can proudly display my gamercard too!!!
