View Full Version : What Were Your Biggest Game Disappointments in 2007?

I didn't put this in the Game area as there is no General Gaming section.

Blacksite Area 51- This game could have been AAA. Instead it ended up a buggy mess. If you played the Demo, you played the best part of Blacksite. From Humvie's that float in the air to being able to walk right through a pickup truck, this is one game that should not have been released without major work to fix it's flaws.

Spiderman 3- From citizens that appear in thin air to buggy collision detection to a New York city that feels dead, Spiderman 3 is a huge step back in the series. The best Spiderman game was the original. Sure it was linear but it was done right. No filler, no junk. In Spiderman 2 a little girl would call out to save her balloon. C'mon Spidy, you must have at least one pocket in that suit. Pull out a buck and tell that whining twit to buy a new balloon. You have better things to do. In Spiderman 3, the whining brat was replaced with Mary Jane yelling for Spiderman to "Take me higher, higher, oh God higher". It's not a porn. It's a videogame. Next time leave the filler out and concentrate on the important aspects of the game. Like citizens that speak and more than one car with four different skins.

What are your biggest gaming disappointments? Vent here.

I don't know, because unless I was absolutely sure that the game I bought was going to be good - I didn't buy it. That's the good thing about a limited budget, eh? :D

I totally agree that Gears, Halo 3 and Mass Effect are great.

Gears came out over a year ago and there are newly released games that don't live up to Gears standards. Beating RAAM was one of my most satisfying gaming moments. Last year he got the better of me and I traded the game in frustration. This year Rest in Pieces.

With Halo 3 there is a very vocal minority that doesn't like the game. 52% of North American 360 owners have the game and I'm sure most realize how epic it is.

I got bored with Mass Effect and traded it. Then after owning and trading Assassin's Creed and Blacksite I realized how good Mass Effect is and the fact that I didn't give the game a fair chance. I'm really enjoying the game now and getting immersed in the story.

Another game that blows me away Is CoD4. Activision took a chance switching to modern times and they nailed it. I hope the reports of the next CoD going back to the WWII era are false.

I also hope to see Resident Evil and Silent Hill come out this year but they may not. GTA IV will be the game of 2008 IMHO.

Mass Effect was a disappointment for me. While I like to play RPG's such as WoW and what not, this game was boring and did not live up to any standards I wanted.

Halo 3 = Halo 2 on steroids. Once COD4 came out, I havent really touched Halo 3 at all. Much more satisfaction playing COD4. Yes, the story was good in Halo 3, but its been building to that point. And of course the story WILL continue in HALO 4. Just a matter of time. Online in Halo 3 was the same old Halo with a few extras tossed in and mostly the replay feature being the big new feature.

I enjoyed NHL 08, Lego Star Wars" TCS, Viva Pinata, COD4, Crackdown and quite a few others. I did like the SPiderman 3 game. Whlle some of the camera angles could be a but frustrating, and a few of the battles and missions repetitive, it was still a fun game.

All in all there are many games I liked this past year and there are some that have been disappinting. But I think we can all agree its been a great year for the 360.

The only game I got from 2007 that I was disappointed with was Halo 3. It's a decent game, but to be honest I think it just has so much hype and is so overrated. IMO I felt that they could have done so much more with the game, but they chose to keep it pretty much the same as Halo 2 but up the graphics. Kinda like they were almost afraid to change anything. Everybody has their own opinion though.

Every other game I've got from 2007 such as CoD4, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, I have no qualms about. I haven't gotten very far in Assassin's Creed yet but from what I've played so far it seems like it can get kind of repetitive.

Not really much I was dissapointed about, because I generally don't go blindy buying games I know I wont like or havn't tried.

Honestly, Halo's MP was put to shame for me once COD4's online hit, which I wasn't expecting at all.

My biggest though, would have to be Splinter Cell being 2008, as I was looking forward to that the most right after Assassins

It's just that with the next Splinter Cell a lot has changed. Sam looks like a long haired hippie and there isn't as much hiding in the shadows (if any?). I'm sure some fans will be disappointed (as people are with any game). I just hope they bring back moral choices.

The series needed something different and it's definetly due. Its like MGS, that's completely changing as well, so we'll see how it turns out.

Im REALLY hoping they do a great MP this time as good as Pandoras

YES! Spiderman 3 was a major disappointment. You nailed most of my issues there, but I was really expecting this game to be a lot better than it turned out to be.

Biggest let downs of 07?

Rainbow Six Las Vegas. Albeit a good game, just pissed me off that there was no 4 player co-op squad for campaign, only one person in the two player squad could use the custom "head" from the vision camera and the campaign itself was a bastardized and stripped down version of what you played alone.

Ghost Recon AW2, same deal, 4 player co-op: none. Co-op campaign, very different from what you played in the actual game. I missed the old crazy Ghost Recons.

Battlefield Modern Combat (I bought it in 07) Pretty much abandonware by the game makers. No new maps, no new anything. If you had it on the old Xbox, the new maps are included on the 360, but that was it, nothing ever happened with that game which had a lot of potential. They released it, then quickly forgot about it. Never fixed any bugs and so forth.

Halo 3: Awesome game, just way too short. The campaign tosses a few very long missions to throw off the few short missions. Then you spend a lot of time back tracking over the last map you just fought across.

PGR2. Drive fast, skid, repeat again.

Lego Star Wars. After unlocking everything, playing all the side missions, romping through Legoland, that's it. Just trade the game in. A very non ceremonious way of ending things.

you know i have a game for everyone who reads this thread.......
if you go on xbox live and click in the part where it sais inside xbox live in the start up go a few they have the 150+ games released in 2007 check out all the actual dissapointments in that footage..., i swear i can only mention like 6 that i actualy bought and liked this year... and i think im pushing it by saying 6 so in actuality im kind of concerned about the quality of gaming this systems putting out cause if on over 150+ most of us cant even mention over 10 games we actualy liked the future looks a little bleek for xbox... i use to say xbox was about quality not quantity... i hope it remains that way...

Thats such a let down with trailers...
i think they put more time in the trailers then the game...i mean come on!

And i also hate it when games have such an awesome story line.. but the game it's self sucks! ** i'd rather watch the movie scenes..

Assassin's Creed.

Great game, but the wandering around trying to find what to do next is what kills me.

The storyline needs to advance faster without requiring the player to wander for 20-30 minutes at a time.

I loved CoD4 for about 2 weeks, I even thought it was better than Halo for the first week, but that quickly wore off. Halo takes much more skill, you don't die in one shot in Halo and it relies more on skill rather than hide, shoot once, run, hide, shoot once, yeah... So yeah I realised CoD4 takes minimal skill (though it's still fun to play) where as Halo takes much more skill and teamwork. So I kind of was disappointed with CoD4, wish I would have rented it instead.

I think Kane and Lynch was a disappointment, but wasn't that '08? I'd say the biggest dissappoint for '07 for me was... all the games I wanted that didn't make it out. Like one poster said, I pay a good bit of attention to what I'm buying so I rarely buy something that I don't like.
