Ummm..... My parents bought a 360 holiday bundle in early december.. I stored it properly and opened it during Christmas. I plugged everything and inserted a game. When I closed the tray, it made a small rrrr rrrr sound, I allowed the game to run and after playing for an hour, I stopped and opened the drive to check the disc. It recieved no damage. Nothing, from my point of view, was stuck in the drive/tray and the game was new and clean and properly inserted. I unplugged the 360 and replugged and inserted a game and it stilled made the same sound. Now remember it only happens after I close the tray and it makes a small rrr rrr sound then it stops. i still can play the game without any problems.... I was wandering if this is a major issue or a minor issue.... If it is major, then I will return it to Best Buy and get another 360 and pray that isnt broken..... THanks for your advise

Welcome to XBA.

That sound is 100% normal. It's the disc spinning at (I think) 5,000 RPM. Xbox 360 drives are not quiet. Even hearing that sound during a game is normal.

You have a one year warranty on everything and a 3 year RRoD (God forbid) warranty so no worries. I never hurts to buy the Extended Service Contract from Microsoft. I'm going to buy it before my year is up. You have peace of mind for around the cost of a game. If you decide on that the number is 1-800-4-MY-XBOX.

You just got the best gaming console on the planet (I know I used to have a PS3) with the absolute best gaming lineup. Enjoy. What kind of games do you like?

What is a rrr rrrrrr sound? If it's just the disc winding up, that's normal like Gamer said. I sounds about like a loud disc drive on a computer. And on the 360 it is loud as hell. I have been noticing as of late, my 360 is making a nasty noise of what sounds like the disc getting let go while it's spinning into the tray. A nasty noise I must say. It's still going strong though and there are no signs of scratches on my discs, so I'm not worried yet.

When I got my X360 back from the repair center, plugged him in, started him up, everything was fine, untill I put the disc in...
at startup of the game it was this loud "RRRR" sound and when in the menus the "RRRR" sound went even more intense, but after 5/10min of playin it went all back to the normal sound of a game runnin' on the x360.
I often have the "RRRR" sound for a couple of minutes but then it fades all back to normal.

Many welcomes human, it is very glad you are interested in it's site.

No that is no major problem nor is it a minor one, it is a signal that your xbox is working correctly. However if somehow your disk comes out of the 360 more scratched than before it had gone in then that is a problem. But if not then there is no problem.

It has answered your question and it now takes its leave.

Hello, I would recommend first calling the Xbox number and asking them for any advice and if they can't help you then ship it in for a repair or a new Xbox. Thanks!

well I would surely hope he's gotten it fixed or exchanged for a new console since that was back in Dec 07'.... seems there have been a few older posts gettting some life here lately.
