xbox live membership

Simple question I hope. New XBOX 360 and I plan to sign up for XBOX LIVE so my son can battle his buddies and I can battle the Dads. Question is, the sign up asked fo a gamer name and I want to have more than one name for my son and then for me. Does the XBOX live account get assigned to only one person or the console itself.

I really can't find much of a help section on the Microsoft website of the little flyer with the XBOX.

It's assigned to only one person yes, but you can make a 2nd account for your son. so you'll have to get 2 cards, 1 for your account and 1 for your son's.

Honestly, what my dad and I did was share a gamertag and we did this from the time the original xbox came out with live till the day I moved out. But if you want him to have his own account you have the choice of having the membership being a monthly one or yearly, honestly I would go with monthly for your son. Seeing as if he is grounded or what not you can end the subscription right then and there. But like everyone else has stated, you will need to set up two different accounts if you each want to have one.

You can set up more than one xbox live account on the same 360, there are two methods of payment, either buying the card in store of setting up your credit card which will annually or monthly renew your subscription when you need to.
