O MY F'N GAWD!!!! Am I da only one that was about to bust a nut when Square Enix announced FFXIII was coming to Xbox360 same day as P@ssyS3?!

That is worse news for Sony than losing MGS4 to MS! Too bad Japan isnt getting FFXIII for their 360. That's foul, but I dont speak japanese and im not bangin Luci Lu so forget dem! :D .... wait, is she chinese? :watchout:

Anyways, SquareEnix had no choice, this game has got to be the most expensive game ever made topping GTAVI, and they need to off set their loses on the development, localization, publishing costs.
ps3's installed base in just not enough. Watch, MGS4 will be coming sometime in 2009 to 360, I bet you.

This news on FFXIII is earth shattering, and BY FAR the biggest news of E3 PERIOD!

Who else is with me on this? Anyone else as excited as me?

FFVII is one of my all-time favorite games ever! My stubborn, fanboyizm wouldnt allow me to cop a PSOne or PS2 (PS3 & PSP for that matter) to play the other FF (8, 9, & 10) games. I played FF7 on a friends original PSone, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I'm extremely excited for this game. this is a changing of the guard for real.
FFXI doesnt count. F that! That game needs an askerist beside it, because it is a MMORPG that blows!

Man,... we all did it. If you copped a 360, or 2...3....... maybe 4 per RROD! :D you did it! You pushed the installed base of the 360 so high that Square had no choice but to sleep with the enemy! F'N SWEET!!!

like this broad right here, she can get it! naw mean! :hump:

that was so beast how at the E3 MS press event the Square dude walked off, then came back for one more announcement.

This might have meant something 4 or 5 years ago... but Final Fantasy is played.I could care less about japanese rpg's ,it's a homaganized genre with convluted storylines and gameplay enviornments that amount to hallways & giant rooms painted to look like locations, the equivilant of a wild west movie set...built in a gym.the grounds so flat that if the charecters were smart they'ed be wearing rollerskates instead of boots.

Im not saying that the game won't be enjoyable for some, but I've already played it ...

I understand if it aint broke dont fix it , but how about spending less money on goofball anime cineamatics and build something entirely new?
Mass Effect... Blamm!!!
Fallout 3...Ka-boomm!!!
Final Fantasy 13...squish of grandma's soiled panties...

Of the three press confrences I think Sony kinda busted on em.
In presentation they came across.Microsoft and nintendos reps felt like condecending public school teachers trying to endorse schoolastic achievement in a highschooll gym, while Sonys guy seemed to really be talking to the gamers in the audience. When microsoft showed their avatars/nintendo me rip-offs I was laughing...screw nintendo we'll take you're sh*t you aint gonna do nothing online any way. Then Sony showed their avatars...articulated charecter models in a detailed virtual world...daaamn.It was like Tweedle-d and Tweedle-dum getting bit*h-slapped by Bruce Lee.Finaly,I was a big comicbook fan growing up, so when Jim Lee came out there presenting the D.C. universe thing I got kind of excited.Sony's got my broke ass sceme'n on husteling up the cash for a PS3. 400$ 80 gig...not bad.

Press conference highlights(for me any way)
Microsoft - Portal & Netflicks
Sony - D.C. Universe & 80gig bundle price point
Nintendo - portable cookbook

I remember that last gen I bought the xbox because it was the meanest dog with the most tricks. This gen it seems that sony might have the meanest dog and we've only got the most tricks.Nintendo gives ya a plastic pail & shovel and escorts you to a sandbox.

Couldn't agree more. FFVII was the best, after that they all fell on their face.

Microsoft - Portal & Netflicks

I almost fell out of my chair with excitement when I heard Galdis's voice. Felt like a kid again. Portal is one of my favorite games, ever.
The Netflix thing was huge, I have to sign back up now.

I may just finally pick up a 360 for this game :hail:

You don't have a 360 yet, WTF??

To typical japanese RPG fans, this is huge news. For someone like me who likes mostly all RPG's that is. I know there are plenty of other fans on this board that do as well. Final Fantasy 13 may be a let down, maybe it won't be. To me, it's not about a world where you can do anything you want, go anywhere you want and every little thing you do has an outcome on the game. To me that doesn't make or break an RPG.

Mostly, for me I follow the story and how the elements of the gameplay are introduced to us in the game. Sure, Fallout 3 looks good, and Mass Effect was okay at best (Yes, I said it). But I'll take FFVI, Suikoden, Chrono Trigger/Cross, or hell even FFVII any day of the week. Upcoming games, Infinite Undiscovery and Tales of Vesperia look really good as well.

If you don't like the "anime cinematics" simply put, don't play the games from Square-Enix, because yes, for the most part that's what your going to get. There's plenty of other developers out there who are focusing on more realistic RPG's.

A lot of people don't like JRPGs because they're all so predictibly formulaic. I like some, such as the Grandia series, but the Final Fantasy series didn't really interest me. What kind of annoys me is that male characters are basicly women without breasts.

oh and that screen reminds me of something

What are you dudes smokin?:watchout: FFXIII will not be like the old school FF games. It is not turn based, and it will be mostly voiced dialog. We even have a broad as the hero. :hump: The visuals are nothing less than stunning and it will without a doubt sell more units on 360 in both US & Europe that the ps3 version.
Did anyone see the Marketing VP for Sony interview video on gamespot.com? Retard tried to downplay FFXIII on 360 saying Sony will still get it the same release date and believes the dedicated loyal fan base will support the ps3 version over the 360 ..
... um, diickhead! you said that about GTA4 and how did those figures turn out for Sony vs. MS sales?

History will repeat itself. Aint no one with a 360 going to go out there way to cop a ps3 just to get FFXIII .... HOE PLEASE!

this is a day 1 purchase for me, although it probably won't release in the states until late '09 early 10.

2009 without a doubt! SquareEnix is notorious for their delays, but I cannot see this game coming out in 2010 being it was the main event final announcement at the MS confrence that was so huge MS bumped Halo Wars, and the Bungie Halo game out of the show so it wouldnt take away from FFXIII earth shattering thunder!

Then again, ... RE5 was announce in early 2007 and is not coming out until 03/12/2009!

But yeah, DAY 1 PURCHASE WITHOUT A DOUBT!

I seriously doubt that it will actually come out in the state's in '09. I'm thinking early fall for ps3 in japan and spring of '10 in US.

I hope not. But check it out, the 360 version will be a direct port of the PS3 version, so all they will need to do it just localize the game. That cant possibly drag out to 2010!?:trippin:

I wonder if they can compress this game on a single DVD-9 or if it will be on more than 1 Disc? That will be a Sony fanboys dream for this game to be a multi disc for 360 compared to a single disc for the Blu Ray equiped PS3.
That's a really lame comparison as long as the game is no different which at E3 SquareEnix stated both version would be exactly the same.

It's coming to MS's console for the 1st time so any trash talk from a Sony fan is meaningless. :D

That was most likely part of it, but I honestly see it more being to not take away Gears 2 steam for this Holiday as well.

Keep in mind, this IS square. They won't release it till it's complete.

I honestly wouldn't care if it was on 10 discs. I don't understand all the complaining about swapping discs. Plus, with the Holiday update you will be able to install it onto your hard drive anyways, so there goes that argument.

I'm with Zeit, I'll be surprised if this makes 2009 out here. Earliest is going to be Holiday anyways

based on square's record, it take's a large RPG about 6 months to be translated and localized, so yes, it will take that long. It has nothing to do with it being a port from the PS3, but the fact that they have to translate all of the dialogue as well as rerecord any spoken parts as well.

I heard about that. Are they talking about the install like how GTA4 & MGS4 are for the PS3, where you install to prevent longer load times, or to completely put your game on the HDD without using the disc ever again?
I didnt really get into that note at E3 when I overheard it.

it's to cut down load times and also not have to use the disc drive (lessening the wear and tear) but you WILL have to have the disc in. I would imagine this is to prevent people from renting games and just installing them.

I would think that would hurt the rental business if your looking at it like that. Because if that were to happen MS & Developers would lose money on the software the rental companies like Blockbuster & Gamefly make.
Maybe im looking at this wrong. But I would think if rental is high in demand for a game, the rental company purchases more copies to accomidate the consumers.

no, you misunderstood what I'm saying and it's not how I'm looking at it, it's how it's going to be....you can't install the game on your HD and play it without the disc in the drive. This is to prevent people from renting games or borrowing games and just installing them for free or for the rental cost and not needing the disc. If everyone started doing this then the game companies would lose lots of money.

Like I said, it's mainly just to cut down on load times and to not have to have the disc drive spinning (cutting down on noise and wear on the drive)

This would be big news if Western RPGS didn't do it first. Not only is there far more choice in WRPGS, they're just more interesting. And where are you getting the idea that it looks stunning? Nothing more than a few teaser trailers have been released, and they show no gameplay at all.

Speaking of teaser trailers, what's the point? They fail to get me excited anymore, since I think we've all grown out of the PS2 mentality that pre-rendered cutscenes are the best thing ever. At the same time though, I do appreciate what the Killzone 2 team tried to do with their trailer (set a goal for the final game). That is respectable, but making a trailer for the sake of teasing is just, well, slacking off in this day and age. Consumers aren't idiots, we want to see the actual game to judge it for ourselves, not have pre-rendered trailers shoved down our faces.

The trailer is stunning and of course we have not seen gamplay, but when has SquareEnix failed to deliver on any promises for their flagship RPG?
You cant compare a respected independent company like SquareEnix to Sony and that B.S. KillZone2 trailer that even said was what the actual gameplay will be like.
Atleast Square will tell you the truth unlike Sony.
And even with the Western RPG's making there marks in the US, this news is huge as anything with FF's name on it (except XI, fake as MMORPG! ) it sells software units in the millions, and a system killer app without question.

Clintman
07-25-2008, 11:10 AM
I dunno, call me crazy but I don't think it's a killer app. It's just the same old. Who knows, maybe FF13 will be radically different and change my tune. I doubt that though, because that would risk losing the audience they've come to gain since the first FF,and that kind of paints them into a corner.

And while Square has never failed to deliver, they've been delivering the same thing for the past 20 years (with the exception of the transition to 3D, but that was expected). Is that really a good thing? You can't blame people for getting tired of it.
