Well first off i would like to say that i am not a biased gamer in the topic of Saints Row VS. GTA. I have been reading some posts, and alot of people are saying in the unbiased aspect that Saints Row 2 will be more fun then GTA4, which i agree with. I also agree then GTA4 is superior graphically. Online play wise, i think that GTA4 had the right approach to full city play, and yet at the same time, it wasnt done properly. SR1, on its debut, took everything that GTA was and added the fun content to it, i must say i have played and bought a few GTA's, and only 1 of them (san andreas) was playable for more then 2 weeks. I have never beaten any of the GTA story modes, but i came close on SR1.
GTA4 came out and I think was overrated, it didnt deserve a 10, from any website, not only in overall game...but in lasting appeal, a 10? i mean honestly.
SR2 will come out and it will be great for what it does, but it will prolly get kicked to the ground by the fan boys of GTA and not given a worthy shot
Now i am not biased towards SR2 thinking it is superior, but i am just calling straight shots, i mean the co-op in GTA4 was 3 seperate areas, and SR2 its the whole game, GTA4 lacks customization besides like clothing... and the clothing choices are shotty.
IF NOT, for the aforementioned reasons above, i think that GTA4 stands lower ont he scale then SR2 does, is for the mere fact of lasting appeal, online modes and online handling, but mostly the $$ issue In-Game. 1 of the main things a person wants to do in a no holds barred game is to get money, AND.... be able to spend it. 1 thing i noticed in GTA series is the lack of customization and lack of buying things (besides san andreas, which tried) SR2 and SR1 both let u trick out your rides and clothes and so on, and not to buy a seperate item of clothing if you wanted to wear it in a different style (san andreas)
SO after that, from a non- biased, but well thought out comparison of what i feel good gaming to be ( graphics, gameplay, online, and lasting appeal) i just feel that SR2 should have recieved more hype then it did, considering it is being released in like 3 weeks.
Do any NON-BIASED gamers feel differently, or the same?

You've have been here for 7 years... And this is your first post.
You must really feel strongly about this.
I do however, think that SR2 will be superior to GTAIV, and I think GTAIV was WAY overrated.

I'm really excited for SR2. GTA was great for what it was, but SR2 is taking the other approach which I know I will enjoy.

Well...the ability to dress up my character and "pimp" my ride isn't what sells me on these games. The BEST thing about the GTA games is its humor...especially its talk radio stations. I felt as though SR and GTA (pre-IV) were pretty identical EXCEPT that Saints Row wasn't funny...at all.
IMO, GTAIV was very deserving of it's 10s. Because it added what the GTA games were missing this whole time...a quality story line. Honestly, SR2 and GTAIV are going to offer very different experiences. SR won't match GTAIV in terms of sheer quality, although it may have a bunch more silly things to do. As a long time fan of GTA and SR type games, I'm glad GTAIV took the serious route, because it was getting old.

GTA IV is a great game... but no, as y2kash said - it did not deserve those 10 ratings.
It's an incredibly vast game, these said reviews were released within days of the actual release... to have really reviewed the game in full and in a decisive manner they would have had to wait weeks... obviously, this isn't an option when you want to max out your traffic.
I would give the game a solid 9/10... but I can point out plenty of flaws. While it's incredibly realistic, I find it has lost out on the fun element. That 'I DONT GIVE A ****' aura that its predecessors tossed about.
SR2 seems to be all about fun.... I never really played the first, but I may well look into this one. I'm quite happy for there to be other titles (hopefully) giving GTA a run for its dough.... hopefully the pubescent whiney teen fanboy consumer base that makes up a stupid amount of console owners might feel the same way.

I am not a fanboy for either one but I have to agree with Sam. GTA went with realism whereas SR is all about over the top fun. I can't wait for SR2, comes out in just about 15 days now.

I had GTA IV for PS3. It was OK. It added a lot in terms of atmosphere but took out core gameplay like the ability to buy things. At least not to the extent of prior games.
SR2 should have been made into less of a parody IMHO. You can DL a flying saucer. Not my kind of game but a lot of people are going to love it.

I don't think that was an unbiased opinion at all.
I love how people are just now finding out about SR2 I've known about this game, since maybe, three maybe four months after SR1's release. I have a friend working for THQ as a game tester, he'd complain about as soon as the testers would get in a car it'd blow up for some reason. It was funny as hell to hear what he was complaining about.

I've played every GTA, just started on GTA 4, and completely massacred Saint's Row; looking to play the 2nd one.
Personally, they both are awesome for their own reasons, but I won't lie; Saint's Row was a very welcome change and it drew my ire the moment I owned it. It deserves a bit more than just being called a GTA clone. The customization, sheer craziness and inventiveness of the missions, and other random stuff was just so damn appealing. Some of their features I wondered why they never made a GTA game, (gang backup, robbing **** for the sake of it, etc)
GTA of course is the original, king. No one will topple GTA's grasp of sense of humor and they've managed to blend so many stories into it's engine, from the 70's to straight outta Locash. But I do think some of the hardcores felt betrayed because GTA took the serious run as opposed to what got it to the dance, the romp that us escapists live for.
I've yet to really tear into GTA4 like I'd like, so the jury for me is still out about being overrated. But why it got 10's is probably because it evolved into something more than it had already been doing just from what I'm hearing, including branching story and realism in a Grand Theft game....
But were the fans ready for that? So when they see Saint's Row doing the **** they're used to, and then some, with more customization....it's easy to see why Saint's Row is back into the hunt. Just an opinion from the outside looking in, but I expect to wreck shop on both before year's end.
