Ok, I don't have the game, and since my internet was down the other day I decided to run through the original gow's campaign again. I also watched the ending of the GoW2 campaign.
OK! So here's aino's theory.
In GoW 1 roughly the third fourth or fifth act, you're to take back the Fenix Estate, via, destroy every thing in there. After the initial fight sequence you're to go through the back and into the basement into a 'Secret Laboratory'. Now, of all people, why would Fenix. Marcus Fenix, have a secret lab underneath his house? Why does it have anything to do with the locust? Why are there schematics of the Locust underground in there?
Here's what I think, and so do many others. Fenix's parents were scientists working in weapon and immulsion area's i believe *got this part off the internet so how much of that i dunno is true*. What's the best weapon an army commander could have short of nuclear missiles? A seemingly endless army of super soldiers who do nothing but the bidding of the commander? This would be the locust.
I do believe in the theory, that fenix's parents along with a bunch of other scientists tooled around in area's that they shouldn't have. They created what they were after but the end results and the means they used to get there. Just didn't balance. In the end, the locust got out of the control of the scientists, fled to the mountains using the tunnels created by the miners to start their first network of tunnels continuing on endlessly as shown in the game.
How the computer tracked all the tunnels could be explained by some kind of chip put into the 'queen' as the queen would be, by common sense, the most perfect specimen. Should the specimen have gotten away they would be able to track it.
I didn't think about it to much, it all just came to me while I watched the ending of GoW 2 so yeah, feel free to criticize, or post your own theories.
