**EDIT** SEE THE END OF THE THREAD FOR THE MOST RECENT UPDATE. THANK YOU :)
It's mid-November, and it's come to our attention that there are a couple of issues with the database. The owner did an upgrade to the site software and it has clashed with a couple of things related to the database. Specifically, it's related to the rollout of the New Xbox Experience and the size of the images and how they fit onto the site.
All that to say, we know there are issues. Right now is mega-game time, ans I'm sure your wallets know. Staff is up to their Ray Ban's in game reviews right now. They ask that we be patient until early December when game releases basically stop. Then I will be able to add new plates and edit existing plates. Plus we'll get the thing fixed that attributes plates incorrectly to errant forum members.
Anyway, since I have your attention... we're going to give a few faceplates away in December. Why should Santa have all the fun?
Nothing is in stone yet, but I wanted to whet your appetite a bit. Some of the plates we'll be stickin' in your stockin' include:
- Two Supreme Commander plates (only 250 were made, and these are coming straight from Jacob at Aspyr!)
- A number of Call of Duty 4 and Yellow Naruto: Rise of a Ninja plates.
- An E305 plate or two.
- Hopefully some additional surprises. You'll know when I know.
Anyway, to maintain the goodwill with our developers and PR people, please check out the websites for these games. Depending on how we decide to do the contest, we may require proof that you downloaded and played the demo for these games. I've got a little research to do before I make that call though, so hang tight.
In the meantime, DO please check out the Supreme Commander site at:
http://www.supcom360.com
Aspyr was very gracious in donating these super-limited plates to us. Wanna know what's cool? In their efforts scouring the web, they had already learned about us from a Supreme Commander thread a while back. To make a point: What we say and what we do DOES get back to the developers. We hope that they see our main goals, not just to add to our collections but to help them promote their games and through that, encourage them to ALWAYS choose faceplates as a way to spend their marketing dollars.

Sounds great Space. Can't wait to see what's coming. I make it a point to try every demo available on the Marketplace at least once. There have been several Arcade and retail games I've purchased that I probably wouldn't have because I enjoyed the demo so much.

Spacey,
Any updates on the database?
No. I haven't heard anything back from Kamshaft. I got a message "let's talk over the weekend," but my weekend was wall to wall working. I haven't heard back from him since then.
I don't know how many Naruto or COD4 plates we'll have, and I haven't gotten the Argonauts plates yet. SupCom plates are here. I think I'll just do one of each plus the other plates for this contest, and then give the other two away in a future contest, so that I've always got some good stuff up my sleeve.

Not really. I've been at the mercy of Kamshaft. He bought a new computer and moved everything site-related over to it. We've talked in the last 3-4 days and he understands that it needs some TLC and fast. People will continue to drop away if I can't continue to add content as it becomes available. I was just thinking about it this morning. I have all of those Japanese celebrity-designed plates in the database. I have pictures of the plates uploaded, but I'd really like to have the pictures of the celebrities that designed the plates included.
I also have more contests to get going, but it seems like every day I get off, something at work goes to hell and I have have to go in. I worked ten hours yesterday with no lunch.

Kam got the upload/edit part of the database working again. I changed one of Air Effex plates from "customizer" to "Air Effex" and added my Bangles plate to make sure I could do both. Later tonight, I'll add a bunch of new plates. I've probably got another 50 in line. I have to check them all to make sure they haven't been done before and forgotten, so I'm not adding them in there twice.

Yikes. I have 93 more plates to add, sitting in my folder. That will put 1191.
Gotta find nine more plates somewhere. :D
Ooh, I don't have the Star Ocean one yet...o

OK, I'm sell over 100 more plates in my folder so 1,200 isn't going to be a problem. Getting the time to add them before Monday is going to be the problem. Kamshaft also tweaked the portal for the faceplates. The entry to "XBA Chat" is going away on the front page, giving the Faceplate database and forum entry more visibility. He also added a mini window so that the last five plates added can be seen. Then, he added two plates to make sure it was working. I also had the Mayhem Festival plate in my stack of plates to add, so I'll probably tweak his description a bit. The Medal of Honor Airborne plate is signed, so it's different than the MoH:A plate that is in the database already.
We're a little confused as to handle variations and autographed plates. We can list them as separate plates, or we can include them in the "additional pictures" section. If we list them separately, you'll be able to search for autographed plates where you wouldn't be abel to if they were just in the additional pictures areas. But if we list them in the main area, they're really not a distinct plate.
So what we were thinking was that we could assign a code of "Original" or "Variation" to a plate when we entered it into the database. You could sort by "Original" which would give you just the unsigned plates, or "Variation" which would give you all the others, or "All" which would show the whole list. Also, you could search by "Autographed," "Unsigned" or "All" and get any combination of those. I SERIOUSLY doubt we'll be able to search by SIGNER unless there is a way we can search for keywords in the description to look for "Allard" or "Molyneux" or "Cliff".

I found the package of the AIR JORDAN 2K faceplate :
http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr230/pierrevincy/2ksports_kix_and_case1_lo_res.jpg
Yep, I saw that pic, too.
There are two Air Jordan plates. This one, I have seen with both the NBA 2K8 and NBA 2K9 pictures (like in your pic) so I'm not sure if it came with one or the other or both. The other one I've only see with shoes, not with a game. They're both in the database, but because the info is sketchy and I can't do "additional pictures" yet, I can't add that pic that you just posted.

We are currently at 1114 plates, and I have another 137 plates in my folder to be added. Before I start that venture though, I'm going to go through the forums again and see if there is something recent that I might have missed... most likely some of Air Effex customs, if anything.

I'm over 200 more pics in the folder. Lots of them came from Air Effex's myspace but some are ohsay's and others too.
Wow.
I know there are dupes of some of air effex plates so that number will go down. Bad part is, I have to check them all to see if I've already put any in and if they're under his name.
When I get done with this, we could have over 1,300 plates.

New update. I'm still adding plates to my folder on an almost daily basis.
Here's where we currently stand:
Uploaded: 1186!
Ready to upload: 106
Need work before uploading: 26
Once these are all in, it will put us at 1318 plates. :)

Stardate 2009.3.22. Spring is here. Yeah, whatever.
OK, you have probably noticed some changes in the forums. There are a couple more coming, but for now some dead stuff was pruned, and some new stuff planted. And since there's plenty of fertilizer in this place to go around, it should be growing again nicely. :)
As far as the faceplate database goes, the situation is the same as the forums. There's new stuff already in place, and new stuff on the table. The stuff on the table is going to stay there, because I don't want to turn into Peter Molyneux and tell you the database is gonna let you kick chickens and then take it away from you. Or something like that.
What we now have in the Database is Alternate Pictures and Variation Pictures.
Here's an example of a Variation Picture:
(imagine picture of Medal of Honor Airborne plate)
(imagine picture of Medal of Honor Airborne autographed plate)
Same plate, but one is signed and one is not. The "altered" plate is the Variation. There will be a lot of Variation plates for the E305 Rings of Light, for example, because there are a lot of them out there signed by different people.
Also, custom plates with the same theme but different versions will be Variation Plates. For instance, I will have a pic for the "Heroes" title, and then a second plate with "Heroes" and the Sylar Slash with blood around the DVD slot. I also did a number of both. "Heroes" will be the master, "Sylar Slash" will be the Variation, and then BOTH pics will have Alternate Pictures.
Alternate pictures will be extra pictures you can see when you click on a plate. Right now, when you're on the plate's page, you can't enjarge the original picture. Over time, I have to go back into every page and add every faceplate as its own Additional Image so it will let you open up a bigger picture. Then, if I have them, I will add additional pictures. For instance, the Japanese plates all have add'l photos of their designers holding the plate, and the plates on display.
Ach, gotta go put out a fire. Laters.

Really? How are you going to get Variation to sit still and hold 1200+ plates for pictures?!
Seriously though, how are the variation pictures going to work - same as the master pictures (where they have to be emailed to you and then uploaded) or user-uploaded?
I'm digging the changes so far. I tried to ask this question in the official thread started by Kam (but was denied access), did the addict murder the nurse up in the top right? :)

Probably a hundred still. Things keep coming up. I'm trying to paint some plates so I can pay a couple of bills this week. My kids are both having musical performances tomorrow so I'll be out of town the whole day. I've got a bunch of stuff to add to the database. Plus I've been chasing NBC and CBS around like a madman.

He ate her. All of her but the legs. He's not a leg man.
I'm not sure exactly how the variation plates are gonna work. I have this idea in my mind but when Kam explains it, it sounds different. I'll know better when I get some time to play with it.

We are on the verge of breaking some big news here in the Faceplate part of the world. Hopefully, within the next couple of days we're gonna have some updates to roxxors your soxxors off.
In the meantime, this once seemingly impossible has happened... again. It seems like yesterday that Kamshaft thought I was out of my mind by launching the database with almost six hundred plates. Then we hit the unbelievable one-thousand mark, and then more and more and more.
Today, I'm honored to announce that we have passed THIRTEEN HUNDRED PLATES in the database. 1,300. One thousand and three hundred plates.
Wanna know what's more amazing? We currently stand at 1,303.. and I'm not done. I am working on a folder with another... ahem... EIGHTY TWO plates still to add. That gives us a running total of 1385 once they're all up and running.
But I also have a couple of photos from collector extraordinaire hellonearth159 that I have to go through, to pull out photos of plates that seem to have come from outer space itself. I am hoping, that there are fifteen more in there, because I don't wanna stop until we hit 1,400 plates.
Yessiree, Bob.
**EDIT** Schnikies, I got to 1,350 and have to give it a rest. After a few deletions and duplicates, I still show 31 remaining in my folder, plus there are a few still on my laptop.

1407.
That is every plate I have, except...
the Starfox Blueprint plate
the Why So Serious? printed plate
the mystery wheel plate of 159's.
I have a plate in the works for chewy76, and some other plates that look like plates I've made before. I do have some more printed plates coming.

UPDATE 5/24
I'm getting things in order for E3 in one week. Our Faceplate Database count has actually dropped a little bit because I found a couple of duplicate entries. I am going through my folder of additional photos and adding those in to existing plates, while at the same time my folder of "plates to add" is growing a little. I was hoping to get us over 1,500 by E3 but that's not going to happen. I dont' have that many to add.
I made a post a month ago about how I had some killer news. Well, the killer news is still on hold pending the release of the Faceplate Addict Store, which should be any day. I know, I said the same thing a month ago. I am at the mercy of a company that has a couple of higher priority projects that have to come first. It is very important that the store is done before E3, so I will do everything I can to make that happen.
In the meantime, check out some of the Japanese Celebrity plates. I finally got all of the celebs photos added, so you can see the people. Not like anyone here will know them, but you never know. It was an omission that was bothering me.

UPDATE 7/30
We got all the say to 1,440 plates in the database a couple of weeks ago, and sat there while I got through some events like Anime Expo.
Anyway, as those of you that Tweet know because you got 20 Tweets from us right now, I just added another 20 more plates to the database. That puts us at 1,460. I STILL have another 80 plates in my folder, so very soon (Kam is begging me to pace myself so I don't overtweet), we will exceed the magic 1,500 mark.
We have five months to go before the end of 2009. I have made myself a promise that at the end of 2009, I will completely step away from the custom painting of faceplates and totally utilize the printing process through the Design Studio at www.faceplateaddict.com. The big goal here being that people will see how easy it is, and make their own, not involving me at all. I appreciate that other people appreciate my creativity, but I want them to appreciate their own as well. :)
So... this is a crazy, crazy goal... but I would like to see so many people using the Design Studio that we actually hit 2,000 plates by the end of the year. The days of scouring the internet for plates not in the database are pretty much over. I find a few here and there, but certainly not by the dozens like I did at the beginning. If I could make every plate that I have images for in this here folder on my desktop, I could put us over 2,000 all by myself. Since the money gods aren't likely to let that happen, y'all are gonna have to help me. :)
Anyway, there's yer update. If you run across anything not in the db, let me know! I'll do my best to add more plates over the next 3-4 days and hit that 1,500 mark.

Is there anyway you can split the custom plates and the production/collectable plates into separate lists? For collectors, this would make the production/collectable plates easier to track.
Thanks

I've been trying to figure out how to handle that. One one hand, a member designed the plate. On the other hand, an actual company produced it. I know that hellonearth159 has some plates listed under his name, and some under Imageware (which really ought to be Faceplate Addict, now).
I could ask Kamshaft if he could add a third catagory: Custom Painted, Custom Printed, and manufactured.
I also have a problem with customs by non members. I can't mark them as "customized" because I have to attach a member's name to it, but if I mark them as "manufactured" and then "customizer" as the manufacturer... it really throws off the count of how many REAL manufactured plates are out there.
Lastly, I wish there was a way to drop the "Rarity" of custom plates. Every custom is ***** 5-star rare because they're all one-of-a-kind - even if there are two of them (kofkofbubbleskof). That REALLY throws off how "rare" manufactured plates are. Someone might pay $1,000 for a Moto GP '06 that is 1/10, but they'd never pay that for one of my customs, even though those are 1/1.

Thanks for the reply. What would really be cool is if you could click on your username and there would be a list of all of the faceplates you currently own (the ones you have indicated on the list you own). I am not asking for this, I just think it would be cool. I am not a programmer so I can't speak to how difficult this would be, but being a system admin I know it isn't easy. :)

Tacohead had two... no idea how, but he did. He REALLY wanted an autographed plate of mine, and I REALLY wanted that one, so we traded.
Then, he was checking the tracking through UPS on the plate he'd sent me... and it disappeared. It got as far as a UPS hub, and the envelope was found with the contents missing!
He had insured it, but even before he put in the request for the money, someone else listed one on eBay. Taco bought it, and once it arrived, he shipped it to me. So I have one, he has one, 159 has one, I think Gameking has one, and some schmuck at UPS has one... and that's five of the ten that were made.

I would really like to have a Netflix plate, but I wouldn't trade a Prey plate for it. I actually had a number of emails back and forth with someone from 3DRealms about the plate before I got one, so now it feels kinda like I have a connection with it.
