View Full Version : You know that H.A.W.K.S. is a Tom Clancy game, right?

Hell yes.. H.A.W.K.S. is a good game.
Sure the story has some holes in it you can see coming from a mile away.
Oh and sure flying in assistance off mode would rip the wings off most planes and kill the pilot.
And yeah.. no plane carries 120 missiles.. so realism as a Tom Clancy game is a bit dodgy. The story is a bit weak as a TC game.
But its still fun.
Basically where Ace Combat 6 fell apart, HAWKS fixes.

They make a flight stick for HAWKS but the throttle control is built into the front of the controller base. Even with the AC6 controller with a separate body for throttles I'm not sure how the assistance off mode will work smoothly. In HAWKS you have to double press both triggers to toggle the mode so that means you'd have to turn the throttle up and down really fast on both controller bundles to switch the mode on and off.
Don't know how well that would pan out.
The regular controller isn't bad for the game.
I just hate dog fighting in "AO" mode because of the crazy camera perspective and sometimes you're forced to do it because the enemy will make radical turns and constantly do it so you can't get a good angle.. unless you go to AO mode.
CO-OP mode is fun, I'll say that much. Been doing a few missions with a friend and it makes the game better though I tend to waste missiles on enemies already being shot at.
Nice game.. AC6 was good too.. just couldn't stand that damn story it had.
Side by side it's hard to say what is the better game.
Both have good mechanics and are solid games.. Both have retarded weird story plots.

Hrm, good thing you said something. But the box clearly says flight stick compatible, so I wonder how that 'double trigger' thing will work.
Doy you have a link to the HAWX stick, as Ive never seen it.

Thanks for the pic Aino. I seem to quite like the AC6 stick better though since it's 2 hander.

Wow, thats an impressive flight stick! Thats the first time I saw it.
As for this game. I love the Tom Clancy series and this game is decent but it just doesnt seem to suck me in like Ace Combat did. I do like the co-op option and the online seems pretty good. i also like the Rainbow Six style ranking system.
Overall I would rate this game somewhere in the mid 70's to 80. I honestly do not really see the point of the assistance OFF 3 quarter view. Sure you can make some pretty hellacious turns but the camera just doesnt seem to hold true to the manuevers you try and pull off and you end up getting turned around. I end up barrel rolling a lot more in this mode.
Its enjoyable to play but just doesnt seem to have any staying power for me.

I might pass on the Saitek stick. It looks like a slightly dumbed down version of their Cyborg flight stick, which is a nice flight simulator stick.
But I don't think the HAWKS version has the twist control. In HAWKS and I guess AC6 you use the bumper buttons to drift left and right. That's a rudder control. I would prefer to twist the control yoke left or right to make rudder turns not use the bumpers. I can see the Bumper buttons on the HAWKS stick (LB-RB) so I'm assuming there is no "twist / rudder" function.
If there is, I'm all up for getting it.

I don't get the deal with the joysticks but I don't think HAWXS really needs it. I mean, it's easy enough with the controller just gotta get used to it.

You could say the same thing for Wheels for racing games. Hell, you CAN play guitar hero ona controller if you really wanted... it's to enhance the gameplay experience and/or making it more realistic.
