OK I bought a brand new Xbox360 around march time but I only just opened it this week (for reasons I won't go into) anyway the console works and I can play games but no green lights at all come on on the main console not even the central one to indicate the machine is on. Is this a big problem?

It's not a problem, it'll just be annoying. I might just be that the cable is loose/disconnected from the LED or the LED itself is defective/dead. New consoles usually come with one year warranty and you should investigate maybe sending it back and have the good ol' microsoft boys take a look at it.

Well if it's coming on and functioning properly then sounds like it's just the LED's burnt out for some reason or some other issue with them. Kinda weird but I guess weirder things have occurred for some. Play it until it messes up/Error codes for hardware and then call MS and repair it.

I've never even heard of that...that's a completely new one to me.
Odd though, too bad you didn't opena nd test it right away back in March, could have returned and got a new one.

But the problem to me sounds like some of the wiring on the circuit board may be screwed up/ the terminals may have been soldered incorrectly/ or even the LEDs were put on backwards (which would be kinda funny if it was made in China).
You could send it to Microsoft to find out whats wrong with it.
