I'm sorry but to me isn't this a MS rip off?

Here's the breakdown:

For those who want an Xbox 360, but can't afford the price MS has announced that for $99 you can get an Xbox 360. Now that sounds like an amazing deal, but lets break this down in real world reality.

Xbox 360 Prices (gamestop)

Refurbished Xbox 360: $130-$150 (Old model, not slim)
Refurbished Xbox 360: $180 (Slim 4GB)
Refurbished Xbox 360: $300 (Slim 320GB)

New Xbox 360: $200 (Slim 4GB)
New Xbox 360: $300 (Slim 4GB w/ Kinect) * online only
New Xbox 360: $250 (Slim 250GB)

Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle: $400

Now those are some steep prices compared to $99, but lets take the Star Wars bundle at a whopping $400 for this example and you'll see just what you get compared to the $99 4GB slim and where your money will actually be going.

For starters you will need an Xbox Live gold account to gain access to all the features and online gaming, so lets kick things off with that price tag, $60. Now lets add that to the price of the bundle and we get a massive $460 dollars. This gets you the top of the line console as far as storage goes, plus the R2D2 Xbox 360 slim and C-3PO controller, white kinect, and more.

$460 seems like a massive investment in today's world so this is something that we would call "catered to the hardcore crowd."

Now lets look at the magical $99 investment. Microsoft has now enabled a program where you can get a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim for $99, but the catch is that you MUST sign a 2 year agreement for Xbox Live at $15 a month. This is where the rip off comes in. Remember we get a Star Wars bundle and Xbox Live for a year for $460 ok? Every year of xbox live is $180!!!! THREE TIMES THE COST OF THE XBOX LIVE SERVICE 60x3 = $180. So you could buy 3 years of Xbox Live for the cost of ONE YEAR of service for this $99 fantastic investment (dripping with sarcasam). Now wait, it gets better. Remember it's a 2 YEAR AGREEMENT, so at the end of your agreement you will have spent a total of $360 for 2 years of Xbox Live. Thats equal to you going to gamestop and buying 6 ONE YEAR Xbox Live CARDS! 6 years in cards, or 2 years being ripped off? Hmmmmmmm, tough choice. Oh wait, how could I forget the last investment, the $99 for the console itself! So at the end of your magical investment, you will have spent $460.

Now the choice is yours, $460 for the Star Wars bundle + 1 Year of Xbox Live, or $460 for a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim + 2 Years of Xbox Live

But now imagine you didn't want to go with the super expensive Star Wars bundle and go with the 250GB Xbox 360 Slim at $250. Then add on one year of Xbox Live and you're at $310. Add another year and you're at $370.

So our next choice is either
A) Xbox 360 Slim 250GB + 2 Years of Xbox Live = $370
or
B) Xbox 360 Slim 4GB + 2 Years of Xbox Live = $460

So is this new $99 Xbox 360 4GB Slim deal worth it? NO ****ING WAY. Instead of taking the quick way to being screwed for $99, take that money and SAVE it and build on it, and when you have enough, then purchase it instead of being taken to the cleaners by MS.

thats marketing for you. not aimed at the core gamers like us, but at the ill-informed noob parents trying to buy at discount.
