Wonder what pixel shading is?

Ok, take a look at these.. They are screenshots from the upcoming Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind game.. which most of you know by now, I am constantly drooling over!!

Anyways, I thought it was quite cool to see a comparaison of this effect.. the first picture is without pixel shading, the second however is with pixel shading enabled. Pixel shading is only present on Geforce 3, 4 and the custom nvidia chip on the xbox (i.e. a geforce2 can't do this stuff).

Without pixel shading:

As you can see, there is a HUGE difference.. the water looks so cool and real!

Anyways, thought I'd share with you all, because before seeing these I didn't really know what pixel-shading was.

Basically, pixel shading is used for water and fur effects, plus it makes trees and grass look real. Pixel shaders ROCK!! Let's see your PS2 do that...

It is also present in ATI Radeon 8500 cards, BTW.

If you have a Geforce3 or Geforce4 non MX you should really check out the Wolfman and Chameleon demos. They will make your jaw drop, especially when you realize that the Xbox can do that too. :D
