Xbox Eye Toy screens!

Cool stuff!

Microsoft Japan has released the first images of its Video Chat system, a package comprising a webcam, the ordinary Live chat headset and a year’s subscription to Live.

Microsoft has made no noise on a European release as yet, but is expected to comment in the next 24 hours.

The system, first shown at E3 in May, will allow five people to talk simultaneously on-screen, while offering features such as backgrounds, music and the ability to ‘rumble’ other people’s controllers remotely. Now, our minds are clean as the driven snow, but surely this isn’t as innocent as it sounds?

OH GOD now you can see how ugly some people are ...

that would be pretty useful for me, since i moved to FL and my friends are still in Boston, I guess i can still be in touch with my buddies better than just trying to gun them down

This is pretty sweet, IMO. When I was a kid, I always fantasized about this type of technology because of watching the Jetsons. Remember that cartoon? It appears that it has become a reality now :)

It's a cool idea, but the last thing I need is to stare at some of your ugly mugs.

haha dude this has been on the XBA front page for like 3 days.

Any games going to let you have a small window of the other persons mug while playing whatever games? :P

It would be so friggin sweet if there was a death cam. Every time you killed someone in a game, if they had a cam hooked up it would show their reaction for like 5 seconds afterwards... I would get a kick out of seeing people yell and throw their controllers in a match of Halo2, and I would love to yell at the camera and flip people off when I got my ass kicked. It would give it a much more immersive feeling. You would feel like you are playing with real people, not just a console with bots.

I would imagine this could cause alot of problems and parents complaining that someone swore at their child ect.

But, if people use it sensibly, then awsome!
Spose they'll probably make eye-toy games with this too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Logitech is the one that is providing the cameras to MS.

It's cool that they allow up to 5 people to video chat at once. I thought it was just going to be the standard, 1 on 1 which we have already been doing for years. I wonder what the performance will be like. Since it looks like the res is going to be about 100x100px with more than one person, and the largest is probably 320x240 so it shouldn't be that bad. I've done 640x480 conferencing at 30fps before with no hicups.

Also wonder if it will be progressive.

You can't really refer to that as an 'EyeToy' can you? Since there arn't games for it, just something for stalkers to view their pray. I mean, see who your playing.

It seems that this toy will strictly be made for Private sessions with your gamer buddy's or will a completely seperate Freaky Vixxenz R us! site erupt from it as well?

It does seem kind of cool though. If my girlfriend didn't live in the Same city...
But I'd never want the Eye toy either, you know... Unless I could copy & Paste my Face onto my favorite Hockey Team! That'd be kind of cool!

im not too interested... i mean do u HAVE to see the people your playing with... the last thing we need are people getting ready so they look 'presentable' for online gaming. I like playing with my plumbers butt in my boxers eating a bowl of cerial . . . .
