IMO, no game is better than another. It all depends on the player. Someone could think Super Mario Bros. is better than Halo. But I think HL2 will be great, and Doom3 will probably be right next to it.

I think they're both equally good but HL2 probably gets the upper hand.
We'll....this is a tough decision.
Do I go with graphics and pick Doom 3 or do I go with Artifical Inteligence and pick HL2.
Definitely HL2, but I still love Doom 3
Half life 2 is gonna have just as impressive graphics as Doom 3. The one thing that HL2 has over any other game including halo 2 is the insane AI and the physics of the game.
The graphics are far more detailed in HL2 than in Doom 3. Doom 3 uses some excellent lighting and shadow effects. You can easily see the self shadowing on an object in Doom 3. HL2 uses lighting and shadow effects but not as impressive as Doom 3 mainly because Doom 3 is set in some tight environment.
