Can't get system link to work

I can't get a system linked game of halo to start. Had two xboxes hooked with system link cable. tried to start a game but only got messages waiting for another xbox and looking for game. What am I doing wrong

Did one of the Xboxes start a game? You have to press A or Y and then go to the screen where your xbox and players are showing. If it still doesn't work your cable is defective or cut.

make shure you have games in each xbox how ever many tvs and the same game

the xboxes were reading each other. we tried getting one xbox to the waiting for another xbox screen. then getting the other to join in but it could not find a game to join. If we unplugged one end of the system link cable both xboxes put up some sort of window saying we were disconnected

just hoke every thing up and turn both on at the same time then play it
if that doesnt work it might be the link cable
and if would make sence that when you diconected the link cable it said u hooked
and welcome new comer
