August 24th info

i figure i can post this in a new thread bc it does not involve much of ilb stuff.

i found this on the bungie forums which sounds pretty solid infomation about halo 2 being released early.

Quote:

Ok all this info i was givin when talkin on aim but i went to where he got it and it was true but i forgot that but here is the stuff. it even impressed MakaVeli4LIfe1(the moderator) last night so here it is

* The blog, which was created by Microsoft/Bungie indicates that something extremely important will happen on this date, something on the same level as other major historical events.
* The date 11+09+04 if added to create a sum is the number 24.
* From August 24th to November 9th there are 11 weeks, which of course are 7 days a piece. The SPARTAN number for John, Master Chief is 117.
* The game has been tested in alpha/beta stages for the past year, sufficiently long enough to collect enough data for a release, especially based on the excessive in-house testing that has occurred at Bungie over the last two months.
* The game recently acquired its international and ESRB ratings, something that happens usually right before or after a game goes gold, not three months in advance.
* Recovering from the "delays" which have plagued the game, it would justly serve the fanbase for an early release.
* It would remove Halo 2 competition from other potential great games to be released in Fall/Winter, which would intern benefit Microsoft.
* The game was 90% complete during E3, in May. We are now three months off that date. Frank, has already said he has played through a near-complete campaign build of the game. Complete enough to be rated by the ESRB and foreign rating firms. This would indicate a game just shy of gold.
* It's the only modern game which could successfully survive and still exceed profoundly in sales with a "stealth release."
* It's a sure thing. With copies already on hold at every electronic gaming outlet, there's no need for a pre-emptive marketing ploy. Just like the ARG/blog, marketing can occur word-of-mouth with a game like this and still be successful.
* A stealth release would only secure even more of a spotlight, being that its the only one done within recent history and its being done with the most anticipated second-generation game ever. It would demand media attention just due to the covert nature of the release.
* A two-week, fourteen-day media blitz (from 08/10 to 08/24) would be much more affordable for Microsoft in promoting the game then a drawn out, five-month promotion ring for a game to be a top-seller for Christmas.
* The original "Fall" release date for the game was September 1st, before the Bungie marketing campaign at E3 2004 set an "official" release date as November 9th. The previous date is less then a week from the date in question and is closer to the original, estimated date of March - June which was set by Microsoft, based on information gathered from Bungie on the date by which they would consider the game ready to ship back in 2003.
* Bungie has not denied this as of yet. With the rampant information, it would only negatively reflect against their marketing scheme by promoting a countdown to something apparently this significantly. With thousands of fans, all over the world, now expecting this, it would behoove Bungie to allow it to be perpetuated without some sort of rebuttal simply restating the release date.
* Recent webcams have indicated that the entire staff seems to be involved in a daily meeting with men dressed in business suits. This has only started happening within the last week, indicating a drastic change in pace from their frantic activities of the "crunch-time-weeks" just prior.
* The date is a Tuesday, which is the normal date a video game ships.

It all makes sense. and yes, i know most of you believe that this stuff isn't true but it is so deal with it. Now i am betting that a Mod will close this place soon even though this stuff is NEW
forum http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=444977

you see.... mods have not closed the thread yet, otherwise they would jump in, lock it and say "its not coming out on the 24th."

what do you guys think??? non-believers are gonna get halowned.

That was without a doubt the most convincing thing I've read about Halo 2 coming out on August 24th. It's filled me with hope again, which is great. But No Fear, I'll be coming for you if my hope gets squashed on August 24th.

These arguments are getting really ridiculous.

lax_defense 08-04-2004 01:37 PM

You know, my saying "Halowned" is going to get old really...really fast if people would lay off of it until either the 24th or whatever 6 days from now.

Unless by some miracle the thing on the 10th is it going gold, you are sure setting yourselves up for a letdown.

I'm on the non-believers side, sorry, but I don't like living in false hope. But there are some things though, and I've decided to think about it a little bit more, not mention I like my real sig better. All of the believers can be let off the hook for now.

Frankie is probably the most brilliant man alive. Why? Because of his posts, he has generated probably twice the buzz (pun intended) that there was before he said anything. He is brilliant in the way that he plays in the Bungie character, replies in a thread with a post that his it's backdoor left wide open. If the release date so incredibly sacred, It would be in the best interest of Bungie (and their credibility) to promptly squelch the rumor.

Plus, we all know Frankie. We know how eloquently written his updates are, they are both witty and informative rolled into one. If he were to put down the fact that August 24th was the date, he would have more succinctly said the US and UK releases, and would have made perfectly clear what ilovebees.com is for.Although I still am not totally on the believers side, I have crept a little closer towards the fence.

Again, I'm not being ignorant/naive/n00bish/turncoat, I'm just stating facts, this also hasn't appeared on any major gaming news source (ign, gamespot, etc.), only Halo fan sites.

Frankie, two words: Weekly Update. If you say nothing, the full release is coming out on August 24th. You just poured water all over this horrendous grease fire.

I agree with Moose on this one...I mean, one would seriously think that Bungie would have made an *official statement* denying the early release. With the plethora of information all over the internet (mainly Halo fansites) regarding ilovebees.com and the early release date of Halo 2, it would seem to me that they would say something to debunk it if it wasn't true.

lax_defense 08-05-2004 01:45 AM

I pray to any god that feels like listening to me that he continues his normal path and not mention t. If that is the case, I am a happy man. If not- I'll cry myself to sleep the next few days.

Im fine with it not coming on the 24th, so if it does it will be an added bonus.

Only reason that I dont care is I don't have an xbox anymore (it died) and Im not sure I can come up with the money to buy a new one on august 24th. I was planning on just living off playing at friends untill later in the year, but there is no way I can survive knowing I could be playing halo 2

Yes, that is my exact point. I'm not a believer, but I would think that if Bungie was aware of the rabid August 24th speculation (especially by some MAJOR news sources), it would have been officialy acknoweldged(sp?) in this fashion (or similiar):

"We have been noticing the increased traffic to the forums with regards to ilovebees.com, the mystery URL from the Halo 2 theatrical trailer, but we need to make a few things clear. One, we are happy that (most of) the Bungie fans, among many many others, have enjoyed decrypting the messages contained within ilovbees.com.What we need to make perfectly clear is that Halo 2 will be released in the US November 9th (UK on 11/11/04). It will NOT and I repeat WILL NOT be released before that time. There will also be no playable demo available. We wanted to set this straight immediately to avoid raising hype in the wrong direction.

What we will tell you is that there IS a puzzle within ilovebees.com, what it is, well, that would ruin the fun, so happy hunting everyone!
"

Therefore, the hatred and doubt toward Frankie, a reputable Bungie employee, could have been avoided. Although most of the disapointment has been caused by fans themselves living up to false hopes, the fact is that Bungie (and MS, not leaving them out!) let everyone out to dry with this. A lot of loose connections were left out there and were easy for anyone to pick up on. A sick joke? Probably not. Bad marketing? Definately. Chance of reconciliation? Certainly. We'll find out within 24 hours.

EDIT: More info supporting my points listed above:

See? Before, back in May as soon as talks surfaced of a charge for Xbox live clan support was immediatly and officially shot down by Bungie via a front page news posting. Mean Spirited? More mean spirited and controversial than an early release? I don't think so.
