Question

My vote goes to Techmo Bowl (Nintendo)w/ NBA Live '98 (PSX)as a distant second.

Techmo Super Bowl was truly one of the best games because it was one of the 1st to keep track of stats. It also got more difficult as the football season progressed. I remember that it was almost imposible to beat the 49ers in the playoffs and how guys used to bounce of Christian Okoye and Bo Jackson like popcorn. And you could play against your friends!

Default Really hard question to answer

I have had so many. Tecmo bowl and Contra on the NES ranks high on my list, just for the simplicity and fun factor. All you had to worry about is 2 buttons and with that I would play for hours on end.

I love all the Mega Man series. The thing that makes those so great is the ability to use the weapons of Dr. Whily's robots after they were defeated.

Can't forget Metal Gear for the PSX. That game in my opinion is truly a work of art. I love the abilty in that game to pull off a neck break without being heard.

On this last one I'm going old school. The stand-up arcade game Dragon's Lair. I was about 5 years old when I played that game at Showbiz Pizza. It blew my mind, it was like nothing I have ever seen before.

Cool This is a tough one...

Racing: Motocross Madness 2 would have to do it for me. (PC)
    RPG: Diablo 2 (PC)
    Shooters: Duke Nukem 3D (PC)
    Sports: NBA 2K1 (Dreamcast)
Fighting: Dead or Alive 2 (Dreamcast)

    Default Ahhhh....

Favorite all time games...in order of "way to much fun for mortal man"...

    1. Doom. More so, the first time I played doom on a lan, with the lights out, and my headphones cranked up loud. I haven't had that much fun with a game in a long time.

    2. Civilizations. First version, on 1 5 1/4 HD floppy disk. Oh man, I wasted days at a time on that one.

    3. Railroad tycoon. From the same jerk who made Civilizations...he trapped me again.

    4. The very first Wing Commander game from Origin. Oh man, I still don't think it could get much better than that.

I love all the new games out now, but it's just been so long since I've played anything that really...really...really...got my heart pumping.

*Eagerly awaiting the Xbox...hoping to have to revise above list after release*

Transport tycoon is way to addictive.

    Thousands more probably lol.

Talking Sham's top 5 NES games

By reading the replies I can see that its hard to pick just 1 game. So I will go ahead and list my top 5 NES video games of all time.

NOTE: So many people played NES games 24/7 until they got a blister on their thumb. There are many good games coming out these days - but I lose interest quickly.

#1 Techmo Super Bowl - nobody had breakaway speed (except Bo), you just had to elude like 15 tackles for a 80yd TD.

#2 Contra - who can forget Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Select, Start??? I remember you always had that one buddy you liked teaming up with because he would watch your back when the action got intense and the framerate began bogging down. Then again you had that one guy who always got the spread gun, then promptly died. Contra was OFF THE CHAIN!

#3 Metroid - That music was so simple, yet so damn spooky!

#4 Mike Tyson's Punchout - Mr.Sandman whipped my butt! I still have yet to beat Mike Tyson because I got so pissed one day after he knocked me out that I vowed never to play the game again and gave it to my cousin.

#5 Techmo Baseball - there was this guy named Oko who hit homers 90% of the time if the ball was low and inside! His swing was like a golf shot. This was the 1st game after Mario Brothers that I was truly addicted to.

Honorable Mention: Rescue the Embassy Mission, Double Dribble, Icari Warriors

    Talking

Damn, I forgot all about Metroid and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.
Those were some very nice games. Sham365 I took that same vow never to play Punch-Out when Mike knocked the tar out of me and to find out that the hero in Metroid was a chick, blew me away. Wasn't that the first female to be the superstar in a game?

Default Mario Kart and Good PSX games

Super Mario Kart was (is) a very good multiplayer game. I remember that I liked the battlemode best in which u tried to shoot shells at opponent's cars. The only thing was that King Koopa sucked because his exceleration was slow as hell - but his engine sounded the coolest.

I have always liked the SimCity games too. As a matter of fact I was playing SimCity 3000 on my Mac just last night.

Sham's Top PSX games in no particular order:

Metal Gear Solid - the different camera angles were cool

Resident Evil - scary music...I couldn't play this game with the lights off in the room.

Cool Boards 3 - actually the whole series is good.

Hot Shots Golf - man, that dude that looked like John Daly could hammer the ball but he had a wicked slice

Gran Turismo 2 - I have yet to win 50% of the races..the game is endless

NBA Live '98 - One of my personal favorites. I still love assembling a team of scrubs and taking them to the playoffs.

Hot Shots Golf was the shizat. My friend and I would play that game for days on end. Aw hell, all golf games are cool with me.. The simplistic gameplay is just too addictive.

On a similar note, I rented Mario Golf (N64) a couple days ago. The idea of Nintendo-sponsored sports games may turn people off with their 'kiddieness', but let me tell ya.. The game is awesome. The graphics are exquisitely beautiful, and the replay value is phenomenal.

    Default On golf..

Ya know, I totally forgot about the golf games. There was one for the SNES, it was really simplistic, didn't even have graphics of guys with clubs. It was released right at the start when the system came out. Anyone remember what that one was?

    Default Hot Shots cont.

I used to live with this reggae dude named Joe in college. He played Hot Shots golf on my Playstation constantly for about a month. I never really had got into the game. Then out of the blue one day I started playing it against him and BAM!!, I was hooked. I had no idea that you could unlock players, courses and stuff like that (note: Sham never reads the manual). I used to use this guy - "Ice" I think his name was - and kill at that game. Hot Shots golf is off the hook!

I haven't checked out HShots2 as of yet.

PS: I just bought a PSX 2 yesterday night. I was up 'till 3:00am playing Madden 2001. That game is tough (All-Pro Level)! With the graphics alone though it makes my all-time list.

It's funny you say that, because the only football games I ever owned were Madden 92 and 93 for Genesis. They were pretty great, weren't they?

I'm going to say Super Mario Bros because at the time it blew me away. Great memories of playing that game also. Other notables would have to be RE 1 for the Playstation, RE 4 for the Gamecube, and NHL 94 for the Sega Genesis. The NHL2K series for the xbox and 360 is pretty sweet as well.
