attacking in morrowind...???

i'm new to this type of game and have a quick question.... i can kill stuff using magic or what not... i can never kill anything with my hands or my dagger... everytime i fight the cave rats all they do is bite me and i cant hit them... please help... i'm sure i'm just an idiot because it shouldnt be this difficult.

Sounds like you need to up your weapon skills...whether it be short or long blade, blunt weapon, etc. Check to see where you're at on the stats screen. Anything below 10 will be really hard to kill stuff...practice on rats and mudcrabs. Just keep whacking away at them with SHORT QUICK attacks, they won't drain your fatigue. Keep stabbing them and after a little bit you'll see your skills go up. Also don't try fighting with a low fatigue meter either. But keep trying, it'll get easier soon, I was in the same boat myself with my Mage.

in order to use a short blade, you need short blade skill. Common sence actually.
