Cat 5 is just used for regular bb/internet. If you don't have gigabit network ethernet just go ahead and get Cat5. Cat-5e is just for if you have Gigabit Ethernet. It would be a waste of money if you have regular ethernet and buy Cat-5e. Just go with the regular one.![]()
awesome, thanks bro!![]()
so i can get one of these cables instead of a router/switch/hub??

Cat5 = 100MB per sec
Cat5e= 350MB per Sec
cat 6= gigabit status.
I personally use cat5e so that even with line interferance, and noise my connection will stay as close to 100mb persec as possible.
NOTE: Using cat5e+ cables will not let u experience speed over 100MB per sec. The Hardware has to support speeds over 100MB per sec.

Yea and how old are you? 15? I had a Microsoft Certified Engineer (dad) tell me, plus I did research. Do not listen to him lefiend. His info is void .![]()
peejay, you really need to give it a rest.... I'll be 19 august 28th. Plus I'm cisco certified. Just because your father is "so called" Microsoft Certified I'm telling you what I know from what I do day by day. I'm paid not to mess up. Keep your lil misinformative comments to yourself. LOL calling me 15,but here you are calling names.........Originally posted by peejay2288

You were trying to say the same thing as me but you screwed up when you said. If you appologize I will accept. And cisco certified? You're still 18...how can you get cisco certified that quick. I don't like listening to liars.
BTW: When I looked at your profile earlier it said "1986"
Now it says "1983" nice try...
hmmm I was certified right out of highschool. Again, only post with info you know, and not what u make up.....Originally posted by peejay2288

Continue on lying. I looked in your profile before I assumed that you were 15 and it said "1986." Now your trying to give me this bull that you're really "almost 19" and was certified out of high school.Originally posted by XboxDragoon

Cat 5e does gigabit just fine...I'm doing it right now. There's no difference in 5e and 6. At least that's what I learned in my Cisco CCSE class.Originally posted by XboxDragoon

thats the website for the technical center at my high school. They offer Cisco 1 and 2, plus A+ training. I started in 11th grade, and I completed it when I graduated, June 18th 02. Anything else u wanna know??????

It depends what you want to do. If you just want to hook up two Xbox's together, then yes. A standard crossover cable will work.Originally posted by Playya

But if you're wanting to go Live, you'll need a broadband router.
If this is true, it's un-freaking-believable! We only had one computer at our high school when I graduated...a big Apple //e! Now they are doing Cisco classes in high school?? Unreal. We've come a long way!Originally posted by XboxDragoon

I agree. I remember back when I was in the 6th, our school of 10000+ had only 1 computer lab with about 20 computers, enough for only one class at a time. The technical center is located next to my High school, but schools from all over the county go there for classes. here is the page for the tech center http://chesterfield.k12.va.us/Instru...ech_center.htmOriginally posted by Zion

But back to the topic of the thread, your best bet is to go with Cat5e, and get a router. you won't see the cat5e rated speed of 350MB, but you'll come closer to 100MB on the lan side with cat5e then you will with just Cat5. Cat5e will tolorate interference better then cat5.

Ok maybe you're not lying. But it's still weird how your birthyear changed from "1986" to "1983". But anywayz Even Zion said it. Cat-5e works just fine with gigabit network....where-as you said "Cat5e = 350 MB per sec" and "Cat6 = gigabit status."
peejay i never said Cat5e wouldn't work with gigabit. I just said Cat6 is marketed for gigabit.Originally posted by peejay2288

ok, so both will work, but do i really need the cat5e??
will it make a difference in how fast things are?
(im only using cable internet, so its not no t3 or anything!)
For the purposes of XBOX Live (or any Internet connection you're likely to have in the next five years) regular CAT5 is just fine. CAT5E won't make a bit of difference.Originally posted by lefiend

(BTW--regular CAT5 could handle at least two T3 lines with no loss risk)
Dragon,
I just looked at the link you posted regarding the cisco training. It says it is a one year course. You started in 11th grade? Did you fail and have to retake the course? Also, it in no way states that it will prepare you for certification.
Nice try.
