J Allard promises Xbox 2 before PlayStation 3.

In a recent interview, J Allard made the first ever admission that the Xbox 2 is entering the thoughts of Microsoft central, promising that the next version of the console will be released before PlayStation 3.

When quizzed over Sony’s pseudo-announcement regarding its intentions to release the PlayStation 3 in 2005, Allard said, “One thing we learned that, and we'll promise, is that they won't get a head start next time. And I'll just leave it at that.”

This news comes as the only evidence to date that an Xbox sequel could well be in the works at Microsoft. Although this is hardly surprising, the fact that a prospective release date is already tagged to the machine illustrates Microsoft’s medium-term strategy well.

Perhaps this is the start of the great console race, arguably the next tangible phase in the ongoing war for dominance of the world’s videogames markets.

It may go for the worse...
1) Microsft releases XBOX 2 before PS3
2) Sony sees what consumers don't like about the console
3) Sony makes the PS3 with all those things improved
4) Bill Gates comitts suicide
5) The government seizes all Xbox 2's and throws them away as a tribute to Bill Gates

I not looking forward to X-Box 2, Homestation or whatever , I just want more games for my X-Box.
Sorry but IMHO I think all talk about which console might be better is all XXXX , we do not know much about the Playstation 3 or the X-Box replacement , so how can anyone say which is the most powerfull or has the better games at the better price but we can guess.

from day 1 MS has always known the TRUE battle of the consoles would be xbox2 vs ps3.

xbox1 was simply drawing the battle lines. By 2005, xbox will be perfectly positioned to take on ps3 with xbox2. By then, ps2 will be a totally outdated system, while xbox will just be starting to reach the out of date state. I would bet during the next 2.5 yrs, ps2 sales will begin to decline while xbox sales should continue to grow.

at least, that's how I see it.

After much research I have found out this-

"The Xbox replacement that is in the works at Microsoft will not be called the Xbox 2. After a vote the winning name was "Mr. Billy's Cash carrying ice cream-mobile"

New features for the machine will be that it is able to make icy goodness via an ice cream maker that is attached to the back of the machine. Name recognition is important. Parents who may not be "in the know" about which console is the best, may be more inclined to go with the name they know. Playstation has tremendous name recognition. If they were to call their next console "SuperFunBox", many people wouldn't know that it is, in fact, a new Playstation.

If they see a box marked "Playstation3", they will instantly associate the name with what they have seen and heard for many, many years. Same goes with the Xbox. MS culd be making a mistake if they choose a whole new naming convention for their next console.

Think movies. If you were given a list of movies to choose from, and one of them was named "Peter's Life", would you want to buy a ticket? How about if the name of that movie was "Spider-Man 2"? See what I mean? Name recognition is like gold.

Anyway, i don't really care about the name of the console. All i care is if has new original titles and better gameplay. Also the return of the classic ones should be very welcome.

I don't care when the PS3 or Xbox2 comes out. I am just going to keep playing what I have now. If both the PS3 and Xbox2 comes out in 2005 then so be it.

Oh and Van, "Spider-Man 2" isn't the name of the next "Spider-Man" movies. The next movie is called "The Amazing Spider-Man".

lets make a petition to MS to have them call xbox 2 SUPER HAPPY FUN FUN ULTRABOX or something....

i always wanted the nintendo consoles to be NES--> super nes--> ultra NES instead of N64-->mega NES or something instead of Gamecube

ah christ. if this is true, ill commit suicide before billy. damn i paid the full 300 for the system 1 month before it turned 200. after that, i get ripped off on all my games, i got mad and turned to PC.

now this is here. if they are going to bring the wars out, put the exact same release day. see what the others have while nintendo watches for the right time to hunt.

2005 im keepin my box no matter for any new console. until the price is down just like the first one.

what the hell?

we need Halo 2 right now at this moment on! have you seen the reviews section from gamespot? 7 and below. IGN is a little better, but it is clear that they are fanboys.

for some reason, i think that Halo 2 will lose its shine and not be as good, but still good nonetheless. Final Halo will be a disaster i think, then we wait 10 years for the PS5 and Xbox 4 and bring it back as Halo III
