NFL 2k3 question

Just played this for the first time this past weekend (rental).
No instructions, but I thought I'd be able to get by.

Can you do a swim move or spin move if you are on Defense?
If so, what button do you push?

I think it's L Trigger + (X,Y,A,B) each one has it's own move.

The only bummer is the move isn't perform until you have contact with someone.

to further elaborate..

pick a lineman...as soon as the ball is snapped press and hold down the L trigger.
as soon as he comes into contact with an offensive player, press either y,a, or b ..

each button has a different function
ie swim,spin etc

its all in the timing
similar to performing a spin move while running.
