Capcom of Japan is shutting down its arcade unit completely. That is why Capcom All-Stars is cancelled. This means two things:
1. The days of fighting games in arcades is over. The "old days" of chilling with people in person, joking, talking ****, the good times that we all had together, and meeting people from all over the world at large-scale tournaments...are all over. The only games we'll ever have is what we have right now, arcade-wise.
2. The days of fighting games on consoles...has just begun. I guarantee that All-Stars will emerge at a later date, on a console, along with other Capcom fighting games. The problem is, I also guarantee that the quality of these games will be much lower, since you're going to be relying on scrubs buying them to make money, rather than dedicated players going to arcades (which would cause the arcades to buy the boards in the first place). So we can look forward to ****tier games, in greater volume, with ****ty and laggy online play...with none of the in-person experience that created the SF phenomenon in the first place. Yes, tournaments will happen, but in people's houses, with less competitive atmosphere, and without a central place to meet, practice, and increase skill level.
SF is dead
