Default Enter the Matrix at 1080i?

    Hi Everyone,

I just rented Enter the Matrix yesterday, one of the main reasons being that I never saw a game in 1080i. I have an HDTV as well as the HD AV Pack, but I was quite dissapointed with the results. Yeah, the graphics were sharp, but I didn't see much difference between the 480p and the 1080i. I know that my TV was projecting it at that resolution because I was no longer able to switch the "modes" of viewing (on lower resolutions I was given the option).

Can anyone give me an example in the game where there is a glaring example of the difference between 1080i and a lower resolution? I know the game was multi-platform, so I realize that the game was made for the lowest common denominator graphics-wise, but the clarity still does not look any different to me. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Does your TV support 720p or 960p? Both 720p & 960p will look far better then 1080i. 1080i is not progressive scan. I = Interlaced P = Progressive scan

I dont know if this will help but here is a site for some useful HDTV stuff, its lynx's.

I think this game while using 1080i which is great still did not do that great a job at other things like lighting and other stuff that lesser res games have. On another note did NE one see that BF will not be in 480p?

Yes I did and it's lame for any XBox game not to support 480p.

It's ok for a pos2 or gc game to not support 480p, But it's not ok for a XBox not to.

Yeah, my TV supports those resolutions as well. I'll disable the 1080i support on the XBox console and see if the changes make any difference. Thanks!

I've seen both 1080i (matrix) and 720p(nba2k3) games through my hdtv, and could barely tell the difference.

Does the game support 720p or 960p? If so try it in one of the them.

The game supports both 720p, 1080i. Just ignore anything that ever says 960p or 540p as those are basically faux resolutions that are either bending the truth or will be scaled anyway. Your standard resolutions, here in the states at least, are 480i/p 720p and 1080i/(p-rare but coming)

The only thing I have noticed with Enter the Matrix at 1080i is smoother edges, ie less jaggies. They really didn't do much optimization for the higher resolutions. Basically what we get is the PC equivelant at running in a higher resolution. I haven't had time to try out 720p to see if there is much difference there, but I highly doubt it.

I don't know of a good scene to go back and look at. Try finding a rom with either a ladder or a bunch of boxes. The early levels are perfect for this. Go up to one and look at it at an angle. You should notice far fewer jaggies in the HD resolutions.

Dragon's Lair 3D did show a difference from 720p to 1080i. Being animation with some very hard lines, playing in 720p showed much cleaner lines and the animation is beautiful.

    One of two reasons:

1: Marketing hype. More is better right? Put every resolution that has ever popped up over the years, standard or not, and people will think it's better.

2: The resolution is native to the tv. As in that sony, all 480i signals sent to it will actually be converted to 960i, it is a line doubler (480x2). It has nothing to do with receiving a signal that is 960i because it doesn't exist.

Same goes for 540p. It is just a 480p signal but they are counting the 60 blank lines that every 480p signal contains.
