Thread: PS3 announced (called PSX)

  1. #1

    Default PS3 announced (called PSX)

The PSX will be released in Japan this year and next year in the US.

It uses the same guts as a PS2

It has TV tuner, DVD recorder, 120 GB HDD

This is not impressive for gamers, but adds some TIVO like functionality.

    The psx isn't a pos3, it's still a pos2 with stuff added to it.

Like Knight said, this isn't PS3. It was actually discussed at E3. PS3, should be announced next year with the new XBox console. This is just something they needed to do for their future games that will require the HDD. Those that already have a PS2 will just have to buy an additional HDD.

And this psx is going to cost around $400.

Who's going to pay $400 for a console?

    It's notting more then pos2.5.

Does it make sense to buy a PSX in 2004 then go and buy a PS3 in 2005? I dont think so. I honestly believe the PS3 will be delayed until 2007 (IBM said the cell will be done in 2007) This must be a filler.

id buy it, not because im a "sucker" as Knight put it, but because i want a PS2 and because most FPS XBox games are just PC ports.

SOCOM and SOCOM II are great games. Theyre very fun, and well its fun and i need a ps2 to play it lmao!

Well, the PSX is an enhanced PS2 with a whole lot of stuff added to it. I don't know if it can be used to gauge the release of the PS3 because it's not being produced or developed or whatever by SCE which is Sony's videogame branch. It's just Sony trying to make up for some lost money by incorpating several of their brands,

    Let's see if it works

Ya, a few months ago i read on gamespot and gamespydaily that Sony was dropping the Cell for the PS3...its too costly, and complicated to program for. And last time I checked, wasnt the original Playstation called the "PSX?"

I definitely remember the original PS being called the PSX. Maybe PSX was just a nickname and the official name was PlayStation. meh, that's just I guess, I really don't know. Maybe they're trying to get back to their roots or something.

the PSX, a new hardware platform scheduled for Japanese release this year and American/European release next year (try not to confuse it with the code-name for the original PlayStation system).
The PSX includes the PlayStation 2's Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chips and will allow you to play PS2 games. But this isn't just a games system. The PSX also comes with a TV tuner, DVD recording capability and a 120 gigabyte hard disk. On top of this are USB 2.0 and memory stick support and a built-in Ethernet adapter.

This product was announced as part of a financial meeting for the entire Sony group in which big shot Ken Kutaragi revealed that the PS2 has reached worldwide cumulative shipments of 52.5 million. Following an introduction to the recently announced PSP (Play Station Portable) hardware, Kutaragi introduced and demoed the PSX.

According to Sony, the PSX represents the synergy between games and electronics. The built-in PS2 hardware will be used not just for games, but for the product's recording features.

Sony clarified the nature of the product following the presentation: "The PSX is a product not from SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment), but from Sony. It's a product that was born from the synthesis of the game and electronic fields, so while you can play games on it, it will not take the position of a game console. We're making it into a new DVD/HDD (hard disk drive) recording product that includes technology from SCE."

They can make the pos2.5 however good they want to, but it will not interest me until they get at least a couple half decent exclusive game to go along with their plethora of crap.

I find it kind of interesting how Sony used an "X" in this new deal. I think Sony is seriously smoking something...
