    Question Music on The XBOX

How many CD's can the XBOX hold approx. Also what are the total # of blocks? I'm using over 100k for music alone, is this too much? I'm thinking about getting a 2nd XBOX for games and keeping the 1st for Music storage.
I purchased this XBOX 5/03. Let me know, thanks.

Nobody knows, just keep putting them in until it's says it's full.

Why not buy a cheap hardrive for the comp and do it that way?

100k? You mean like 100 MBs. The HD should be able to hold maybe 10 MBs, so it couldn't be 100 MBs.

Oh, crap, I was thinking differently. How much space can go into a block?

chances are da Xbox will hold all your CD's and then some.
We all discussed dis waaay back when da Xbox came out.
I dont even put CD's on there anymore since there are very few games dat allow you to use your own music in da games.

I always loved playing Rallisport just for dis feature!

Im looking forward to RAW2, since THQ claims we will be able to use our own customized soundtracks during wrestlers entrances.

I know GT2002 (which came with my box) allows it. I also think one of the Live demos has it... or something... so yeah, that's cool.

I think THPS 3+4 have it also. I'm getting 3.

That logic doesn't work when you have about 1500 CDs.

Just thought I'd point out to you that while you were correcting someone, you yourself are quite wrong

The HD is 8 GB. It is partioned into (I think 3) parts. Part for music, part for game saves, part for game cache, etc...

10 MBs is nothing, its about the size of a PS2 memory card! LOL

There are just over 500 blocks on 8 MB memory cards for the XBOX. So transferring that the the approx 4-6 GB you are able to use, it would make it about 250,000 - 400,000 or more blocks to use. It seems to use about 16K per block, so not very aggressive FAT32 partition cluster size...

I don't see why game developers don't allow you to play your own tracks. That is one of the reasons why some people bought it. For example, NBA Street Vol, 2 is a perfect game to play your own music, but it doesn't allow you. The only games I have that allow you to play your own music is Deathrow and Project Gotham.

The Xbox has 500,000 blocks. That is what the guy at Xbox chat said. Well that is correct, kinda. The originals have 500,000 blocks, and the newer ones have something like 350,000 blocks.

You can never use the full 500,000 blocks, which makes sense for the 8 GB formatted area with 16K block sizes.

I believe it's 4 seperate 2 GB partitions, with at least one you can't actually write anything to, for the game cache, etc. As I mentioned, it is either 4 GB or 6 GB that they will allow to be written on, so that goes along with my other estimate on how many blocks you are allowed to write to.

There are 10 GB and 8 GB HDD installed, but either way, they are only partitioned and formatted for 8 GB..

I think a normal 74 minute album should take up around 60mb since MS uses their own codec which encodes the music files smaller than mp3s. There are 1,024mb's in 1gb and the hd is 8gb. You do the math Although granted the partition for the music may only be about 2-4gb. You should have plenty of space though. I have over 300 songs on my xbox and it still says 500,000+ blocks. But this still doesn't answer the question of how many blocks are in a mb.
Anybody know how many blocks the 8mb Xbox memorycard has? We could do the math and figure out what 8gb has if we had that info

Did you not read my post, where I mentioned just over 500 on an 8 MB Memory card. I think that it converts fairly conveniently to 16K for each memory block.......
